i had a WAG160N, it was completely rubbish, whenever the internet disconnected the whole network would go down.

so i replaced it last week with a DGND3700, its a lot better, when the internet disconnect, wifi stays up, has loads more features which is good.

but, when the internet disconnects, the router very rarely reconnects.  ive had to turn it on and off manually which doesnt always work (theres a reboot option in the web gui, which hardly ever fixes the issue).

my internet always disconnects at midnight.  its been doing this for as long as i can remember, it was suggested by snaps twitter it was my home alarm dialing home, so im fine with the disconnect at midnight.

but with the new router, it wont reconnect, its a PITA, when i wake up in the morning the internet is still down most days.

so ive got a few options

1. try and fix this router?
2. attach the old router to the new router and just use the adsl2+ modem of the old router instead of the adsl2+ modem of the new router (not sure if this is doable, i hope so)
3. return it and buy a router snap recommends?  A dual band router, adsl2+, DHCP addressing thingy (whatever its called, so i can assign a mac address to a static ip address).

so what should i do?

ps: just so we're clear, im not complaining about snap, i love snap, complaining about my router, snap is awesome :)

Everyone at geekzone recommends that you a have a master splitter/filter installed at demarcation so that alarm can not cause such bother.

yeah i have a master filter installed.

im not looking for a solution to the disconnects.  im only going to be living at my current house for a few more months, so dont want to invest the money to fix that issue.

just after a solution to the inability to reconnect.

took the plunge and ordered a fritzbox from snap.

a little pricey at ~$350 (cant remember exact figure).

guy asked me if i wanted it preconfigured, i said yes.  He didn't say if this costs more, if it does I will be annoyed since he mentioned no other cost.

i dont believe is a dual band router, but does have both adsl2+ and vdsl which is nice.  and its officially support by snap, so if it craps out i'll ring them up :)
