I'm talking about the Siemens Gigaset SX763 which was the original Orcon HomeHub unit.
I would like to keep costs down without having to rent a new Genius Modem.
So can anyone tell me?

The answer is no - see http://www.orcon.net.nz/home - the non-Genius plan is to the left.  The pricing of each plan illustrates the current bias for Genius plans on this page but if you choose the 'show' details of the non-Genius plan you will see that the price quickly escalates to around $90 (with the same 5 gig cap) if you want voicemail etc.  Do the same with the Genius plans and you will find that many extras are included in the basic pricing.

Note also that the current Homehub device is a Genius Lite router - but the plans for this device are the same as the non-Genius plans.

So if you want to redduce costs you need to consider a Genius plan or another ISP.

Q - I have a VoIP-capable modem already, can I use this on Genius?
Sorry no, you'll need an Orcon Genius or an Orcon Genius Lite for this service to work.

Blah! found it on there site - I dislike hardware restrictions.

I heard some goodthings about a Fritzbox, perhaps i could have one of those?

Well, you can connect to get a PPP session in theory, but to get the Genius VOIP line, thats where youll become stuck.
