I have noticed recently that my downloads have been slow. I usually get 1.2MB/s consistently but I now notice that it's often at exactly 500KB/s.

I can fix it by restarting my router and off I go back at full speed. A quick google of 'orcon speed limit 500kb/s' lists this as a problem going back years.

Is this something they actively do? I am on the 200GB plan and over the last few days I have not been approaching the kind of data usage that would eat through 200GB so why the speed throttle? It's as if sometime overnight the throttle goes on and I would be stuck with that if I did not reset?

AFAIK Orcon don't throttle - and if they did then surely a router reboot would NOT get you back to full speed.

Can you post your line stats when you are getting this "500kbit/s" throttle.

Chances are your line degraded and your modem gets CRC errors and drops the line speed down. A reboot would cause a higher sync rate to restore.

Thanks guys, yes I will post when it drops down again.

I just found it a very strange number for it to drop down to when my downloads would sit around 498-502 kb/s. It certainly seemed more of a ahnd picked number than a random one.

I'm getting 1.3MB/s. The only time i get less is if there arent enough seeds or they are seeding slowly.
