not like their back haul can keep up with the current transmission technology anyway.

How much back-haul capacity are you expecting to each site?

What phone are you using, and what is your signal level like? (dBm)

Yeah I frequently get 6-7mbit on my P500 in Dunedin, that's about as good as I would be expecting on that phone. If I put my vodafone SIM (from my work phone) in the same handset I get 2-3 tops

acer e210 and sitting in my bedroom right now i have 1 bar, i live in a dead spot, but it's slow at my school, witch is less than 100 meters away from christchurch hospital, witch has all 3 companies transmitters right outside/on the side of the building.

i currently have -105dBm and 4 asu, whatever that means. mobile network type hsdpa.

This is why I switched away from 2degrees as my mobile provider (this speedtest was on Lambton Quay opp. Starbucks), I'm tempted by their prices occasionally, but the service/speeds elsewhere seem to be far better. I still use their $100/12GB plan with a hotspot for when I work overnight, unsurprisingly, the network seems to be congestion-free at 2AM Tongue Out

I still experience random (seemingly forced) disconnections regularly, but for web browsing, it's only mostly a non-issue.

I don't know how you manage 6-7mbit on a p500 which its a 7.2mbit HSDPA device and real world speeds are usually about 60% of the rated spec at most.

I regularly achieved 6.5-7.0mbit/s on my iPhone 3GS a couple of years ago, it's definitely possible.

2degrees in Dunedin is ver variable sometimes 400kbps sometimes 9.4Mbps in the same spot! (well i use SGS2)

and then once in a while you see H+ for a few minutes and then gone!

but even when you see H+ the speeds are low, the 9Mbps i got today (just now actually) was showing as H (it had 1800kbps up at that time too)

I've noticed the disconnects have become much more frequent now HSPA+ has been enabled.  (Previously I've noticed this maybe once a week, now seems to happen several times in a day)

I have a galaxy s2 and the phone seems to frequently lose connection when changing between H and H+ (stationory not driving etc).  unfortunately this does affect web browsing, disabling/re-enabling data or rebooting the phone is required and appears to fix it for a while.

In the last day or so it has got slightly better, maybe they are still optimizing whatever has been done to enable hspa+

Colour me impressed. I've never seen anything like those sorts of results before.
