Yay my first post is a rant about Snap.

I intended, and to some extent still intend to, switch from Slingshot to Snap Naked, but am miffed by the following...

When I was looking a month ago:
155 GB (I forget the breakdown of base + extra data): $85

Now:
30 GB base + 60 GB = 90 GB: $85
30 GB bad + 145 = 175 GB: $95

$85 now gets you 90 GB of data instead of 145 GB, you have to go up to $95 then you get 175 GB…

Then there is this "free" iSky rubbish which I don't give a 2 penny shag about and would much rather not be subsidizing.

So yeah not happy as the previous option was a much nicer sweet spot. Makes the case for switching less clear.

Waaah.

they 'upgraded' their plans... i know i know. I was thinking about changing to them myself and having voip through 2talk, but now orcon genius is cheaper so i guess don't even worry about it, snap :P

Orcon's $99 for 200 GB Genius plan? Which includes VOIP of course.
On the other hand the $89 for 60 GB is a bit crap in comparison.
When did they change those? I seem to remember it was horribly overpriced for ages.

they seem to change the pricing all the time, even without mailing the customers to say so.

i have the $62/m naked 10gb plus youtube.

Looks to be still possible to get the $60 base plan with 155G total for $85.

The 'new' plans are 30G for $75, which is probably to compete more directly with the competition. 30G seems to be the 'go to' amount atm for a family home.

Stasis it doesn't appear to work, if you go through the process and click "check out", it just dumps you back to the new package selection page.

Ralph thank you, I believe I may take you up on that offer. Does it not need to be set-up from the start, or should I just get set-up on the current base plan... will it be able to be set to the correct plan for the first month?

Hey, Your welcome! Just go though the normal signup on the website, we don't start the billing until you are actually connected, so we can get the provisioning team to put you on the old Naked pricing once you are online with us. Smile

Thats good news. And I know for a fact that Snap honors this. I'm still on the original $2 all you can eat youtube/google addon. Its since been increased to $5

Where can you see info on the new VOIP offering from Snap? Call rates, features etc?

Bit annoying trying to use the site, as can't look at pricing for VDSL or Fibre because it's not available yet (even though it will be in a month). Assume pricing for increased cap is the same across plans?

Orcon might be cheaper but it is all comes back to 'you get what you pay for'. I have never been a customer of Orcon but you can look through that forum and see a LOAD of complaints of bad service. Snap might be a tad dearer (at the end it is only $10 and you get more data) but you will get great support and a great service. Looking at my throughput results on Truenet I have an extremely consistent connection at any time of the day. Other providers I understand might not fair so well.

The situation with Snap vs Orcon, for the price point I'm interested in, looks like this, with the above offer from Ralph:

Snap Naked $85 for 155 GB data + $10 for a 2talk/whatever VOIP line = $95 / month
Orcon Genius 200 GB data including their VOIP service = $99 / month

Orcon VOIP has the advantage of free 'unlimited' national calling, and unmetered data.
It has the disadvantage of being tied into the plan, so you can't change it or even cancel it in the future.

On paper the Orcon plan is a much better deal. But, I don't really need the extra data, the VOIP is less flexible, and they certainly don't do as well by customer reviews.

That and Orcon's VOIP calling rates are more than many pots lines. Very weird. Doesn't still well with me at all.

Haven't seen Snap's calling rates yet, so can't really compare.

I agree that on Paper the Orcon offer is attractive, but as an ex-Orcon customer and now with Snap I can honestly say that I could not reccomend Orcon, not even to my worse enemy so to speak. You may be fine if you do not have any issues and everything goes smoothly when moving to them, but god help you if you ever have to deal with 'customer services' - it's just about non- existent (Once you manage to get through). It took about 5 months to resolve speed issues and I have also experienced billing issues (still not resolved). Every call I have made to Snap has been like a breath of fresh air. They are only to willing to assist and talk and work with you through any issues or answer any questions. Thier contact centre is also open 24/7. I put more value in good service rather than datacap. I was on the Orcon bronze plan and I'm now paying less with Snap for VDSL and POTS line. I'm cetainly a happy camper and pleased I made the move to Snap.
