Good morning :D

We have gone from a steady 15mbps down to as low as 3mbps... seems to swing up and down .. but norm now around 5 or 6 mbps now..

What would cause this ?? its obviously not the house wiring since we had a absolute steady connection till around a week or so ago :/

How long has it been happening? If you have voice service, is the line OK or all crackly now?

I had a similar issue a while ago (from 12 Mb/s down to about 3) and it ended up being that one of the cables out at the street had corroded. The Chorus guy couldn't believe that it worked at all! As the issue was at the street they fixed it for free, although it took me a week or so to convince TelstraClear that the problem wasn't my modem >.<

About a week or two, we are on genius and the voice service is fine..

The strange thing is that sometimes it will shoot up to the normal (high) speed for a small period of time (Maybe a hour or two)

However 90% of the time its around the 5Mb/s mark ... sometimes alot less which is a awful lot less than the steady 12+ we had before :/

Also, did this started happening AFTER you installed a new phone, fax, alarm or filter?

How are you testing this? How is your PC connected to the router - is it a WiFi connection or via ethernet cable?

Are these speeds DSL sync speeds or speed test results from something like speedtest.net? They will both mean completely different things.

If your DSL sync is varying the issue is wiring related. If the sync is stable but the speedtest results varying the issue is ISP related.

Nope.. nothing at all changed.. and as I said it seems pretty random.. sometimes its great..(Maybe upto a day at a time) but most of the time recently it has been crap

Seems like its in a "Good time" right now..... speedtest is around the 14Mbps... and my router is showing

Mode: G.992.5 (ADSL2+)
Download: 15080 Kbps.
Upload: 824 Kbps.

My speeds go up and down like a yo-yo too. Just had one of those regular random disconnections about 10 minutes ago and now it's showing:

13768/1080kbps

Earlier it was a lot slower.

Regular random disconnections turned out to be caused by new Genius firmware for us, response from support described it as a feature, but they flashed a new one that fixed it anyway.

The databases websites use for looking up which entity an IP addresses or range is allocated too are often not very up to date.

Suggest that you pass this info on to the helpdesk. It is not normal that it would be so slow within AKL at any time, especially as your sync speed doesn't appear to be the problem. GL.
