Hi:

I have a somewhat bizarre problem when trying to access my Fritz!Box 7340 remotely via a Telecom XT 3G data connection. Remote access is enabled on the Fritz!Box, and when I tried accessing it remotely via https://, I get a prompt for the remote access username and password. I entered it and I then get prompted for the "local" password for the Fritz!Box. This is where things gets stuck - upon entering the correct local password, the password prompt/page keep reappearing - it wouldn't log me into the Fritz!Box.

Initially I thought it was a problem with my Fritz!Box, but I later discovered that the problem only appears when I tried accessing via a Telecom XT 3G data connection - either on my iPad (via 3G), iPhone, or even on my laptop tethered to my iPhone. It works fine if I am accessing it either via other ISP, I.e. using wifi at a friends place, public wifi access, o even on my same laptop but using a Vodafone 3G USB data stick. Simply put it doesn't seem to work as long as the data/Internet access is via XT 3G.

I thought this is pretty bizarre - has anyone seen anything like this? Any ideas what could be wrong?

Try using direct.telecom.co.nz as an APN.

Thanks Cokemaster.

Just realised I can't change the APN on my iPhone since I believe the APN is configured in the carrier file that is pulled down.

I'll give it a try on my iPad when I get a chance

You should be able to change it on your iPhone under Settings > General > Network > Mobile Data Network. That's how I set mine but I am with 2degrees.

For mobile data you should be using internet.telecom.co.nz or direct.telecom.co.nz depending on your IP/firewall requirements.

Don't use direct.telecom.co.nz - instead of use internet.telecom.co.nz.

I've noticed that wap.telecom.co.nz will give you a different IP every time you try accessing the Internet, even between requests in same session. The internet.telecom.co.nz will persist the IP during a session. The direct.telecom.co.nz is too open for a smartphone user.

This was evident when we implemented a security feature that allows your Geekzone session to logoff automatically if an IP address change happens. I guess this is what is happening with your box as well.

Well no unfortunately this doesn't work for XT as XT is now an official iPhone carrier, hence it's settings are preconfigured in the carrier file and you can change it - you don't get any option to change it at all.  I can, however, change the APN for the iPhone tethering function which I will try.

I believe you can change the setting for 2degrees because 2degrees is not an official iPhone carrier.

Thanks Maurico for the comments on using wap.telecom.co.nz as APN.  I think it makes sense - probably my device was getting a new IP address everytime even between session/requests that's why I keep getting redirected to the logon page.

I'll give internet.telecom.co.nz a try

This also affects access to remote servers with enhanced security. Reported to Telecom and this is one of those things that will never get fixed.
