Just wondering, I'm switching ISP from Vodafone to Snap and was wondering how long would it take to go through? Anyone had any experience on how long it takes?

When changing to Snap I called around midday on a Sunday, and it was working at 8am on Monday morning.
Previous ISP was using wholesale services from Chorus too, not their own equipment. That may factor in to how long it takes to change if you're on one of Vodafone's DSLAMs.

Lorenco's got it in the bag - If you're on a Voda DSLAM you'll have around a week or so to transition over, depending on when they can get a tech to the local exchange/cabinet.
If you're on Chorus, I think it must be a fairly easy process, as it can happen overnight.

woke up this morning, sent an email regarding how long the process would take, internet went down for an hour or so and ended up receiving a call from Snap saying everything was complete, the guy on the phone guided me on how to setup my router with snap settings, everything worked out amazing and very fast. The CS at Snap is amazing, top bunch of guys working there who know their stuff.

Very impressed 10/10 transition.

If that's 10/10 then mine (TCL to Fyx) must've been 11/10 because there was no downtime at all :)

My internet was down because I hadn't configured my router sooner, otherwise I don't think I would of had downtime either.

In my case the whole process was completed in five days; the transition took place on day five, exactly as they promised; they even sent me a text to advise the job was done.

While all the above are good fast change overs I would always allow at least 2 weeks. You never what could go screwy leaving you without a connection. People tell their provider 3 days before a move and then get all pissy on the 3rd day because they haven't got a connection because something went funny or maybe gear isn't available or the chorus network is full up etc. So many things can go wrong.

those are all people on LLU.. or moving to LLU... most people are near cabinets so LLU isn't a good idea anyway though.

sure, i'm not really excited by the idea of telecom having the majority of dslams, but it's way better to have a cabinet 1km away than an exchange 6km away.

The turn around is not always that quick. I signed up on Thursday and called them up on Tuesday (Monday was Labour Day) and there wasnt any action taken on my signup. I have pushed the switch to later in the month to line up with my billing period with my current ISP but i havent had any emails to indicate anything is happening or if my dsl modem is on route. Give at least 5 to 10 working days to things to turn around.

I called on a Thursday it was done by Monday and I switched provider and to VDSL. They can do it quite quickly if there is an existing connection.

Yeah it does depend on how you are set up with your current provider, What day of the week the order is placed or what network you are on (Telstra cable vs Chorus copper or UCLL (LLU)).

Best thing to do is just call and chat as most ISPs have tools to see what type of connection you are on and they can give you a rough time based on that.

If you are with ISPs like Slingshot, Orcon or Vodafone it may take longer as they like to use their own equipment on most connections. But hey on the positive side if you are moving away from those types of connections and moving to snap, you will probably fine that the speeds are better and you won't have slow speeds (congestion) during busy hours ( 3-8pm)

most people consider international speeds when they talk about congestion. even with congestion national sites are still usually quite usable, but the majority of traffic is international: youtube, google, facebook, geekzone, are all international sites.
