Fed up with Slingshot, don't want to re-sign with them.

What is the performance like with Orcon's unlimited plan? (generally, has it decreased much since the introduction of unlimited)

I can always max my line with Orcon unlimited. Not saying much as my line speed is only 3mbit.

I am 1km from my exchange and can max the ADSL (around 14Mb). Most web sites are very quick, although I have noticed one video site does a fair bit of bufdfering but I think that is not related to Orcon as other sites do not buffer at all.

As the old saying goes, your milage may vary.

I'd go on a Vegan diet but the delivery time from Vega is too long.

Just activated my Orcon Unlimited plan (as of 1 hour ago). So far it's pretty good. I'll be doing some heavy downloading and browsing over the next few days, so I'll update if there's any problems.

Edit: I usually get around 1-1.2MB/s on other ISPs (I was with Slingshot previously), getting 1.2 at the moment, and single thread speeds are awesome.

Have you logged a ticket with Helpdesk about this?

We don't do any traffic priotisation on national or local traffic, so you should be able to get full speed to the Auckland, Wellington speed test sites.

It's fine here.

My only problem is it seems to slow down heaps during 7pm-~10pm. Also, compared to Slingshot, for some reason, I have (random)major lags when playing some MMORPGS, even though I can attain max speeds from a download at the same time.
This is a real deal breaker for me, as it makes my games near-unplayable, and It's hard to tell what's going to happen until i get into 'a' game, at which point I can't stop playing until it's end.

FTR, my ping with Slingshot to this game used to be around 150-160 (and it had absolutely no lag), with Orcon, the lowest i've seen is 180, and it's usually at 200 (and it has often, random, lag spikes)

Just switched over to Unlimited recently and have not noticed any slowdown.
Perhaps if my line rate was faster I might notice a difference.

Line Rate - Upstream (Kbps): 1024
Line Rate - Downstream (Kbps): 8064

Speedtest just after 9pm in Auckland:

I'm not doing any of my downloading, but my net has crawled to a slow. Basic webpages take at least 5 seconds, something like facebook is just loading for at least 30 seconds.

Seems to happen daily at around 9-10..

I can confirm the above. Web browsing is terribly slow and you can forget Spotify or YouTube. I understand that there is a performance hit being an oversold plan, but even Slingshot was better than this.

Ever since the unlimited plan has came out the in-game latency I experience between about 7pm and midnight has been terrible. Up untill about 6 weeks ago I wasn't noticing any lag whatsoever and now I'm getting up to 2000ms lag in diablo 3. I've logged a support call, and rung them 3 times and have been told the last two times that I have to await a tier 2 tech support person to contact me the next day. So either its just pure co-incidence that my experience has degraded just recently or the unlimited plan is affecting users that choose not to go on unlimited plan.

Its a real shame as I've always been a good fan of orcon, recommended them to people and have never had issues untill lately. If I don't hear back from that support person then I'll probably change providers.

Hi

Can you let me know how Diablo3 performs over the next couple of days. We have done some tweaking which might help.

Is just just for one cabinet or for the general network? Or one specific plan type? (Ie non-unlimited?)

Speeds are being iffy again tonight, mostly connections are taking a long time to open. Last time it was doing this I was seeing 400ms+ pings to the first hop (llu.bng1.nct.orcon.net.nz) but that doesn't seem to be the case tonight.
