I thought I had blocked our number on the website that enables this but we appear to still be on a list somewhere as we are getting repeated calls from companies asking us to speak to the homeowner etc.

Any this last weekend I was away but wife tells me this outfit rang quite a few times.
We have naked broadband with orcon and the caller idea says 929943.
Does anyone know a way to track who this identifies.
Meantime Ill stick check up on that website

The best thing is to use the Call Investigation Form to lodge it with us so we can take appropriate action.

Do Orcon give you a portal to log in to? Maye this has call records and maybe even the ability to blacklist numbers. Should also be where you hide caller ID. Don't know for sure as I have never used it.

I think you can blacklist numbers on the Genius device but customers don't have access to do this at the network level.

Besides any of that, if we see patterns of nuisance calling there is sometimes further action we can take than just blocking the number. So it's worth logging it with us, especially if the Caller ID doesn't seem legit. We can track it down and get it stopped.

Are you on the do not call list, setup by the direct marketing organisation. Still doesn't stop overseas scam calls from india and the like,saying we have something wrong with out computer, which we now seem to get on a daily basis, and they even know our first names.

Many of the scam callers have a VOIP autodialler just running through all the numbers in a range, then patching the ones that get answered through to the scammer sweatshop call-centre. If the call-centre is busy, that's where you get the mysterious calls that have no-one on the other end, then hang up after half a minute.
Being on a block list only stops the more legitimate cold-callers. Even unlisted numbers get the virus scams and etc.

In reality there is not 100% way to stop the telemarakerts, seen they are already wasting your time why not waste a bit of theirs, lead them on with some fake interest ask stupid questions, act like your dumb, then when youve had enough tell them that you have enjoyed wasting their time, if they want to waste some more time please call back.

I took a slightly different approach and got quite colourful with my language after getting quite a number of these "your PC has a virus" scammers, it took about 3 phone calls and I guess I got on the list of "don't bother calling, they know the scam" and haven't had any calls for ages

I don't think that causes a problem for them, they are only paying them a few cents. I had heard of people blowing a horn down the phone at them, but apparently you can get in trouble for doing that. But if everyone did that, they wouldn't have anyone that would want to work for them, but I wouldn't condone dong that.. This is just going to get worse I'm afraid, with more an more automated calls, and it is essentially spam. It is just going to mean that people will ditch their phones, or only accept calls on their whitelist. I screen my calls, and don't accept any calls from blocked numbers. If they are important calls, they would leave a message,

That's exactly what I do ... you can't be bothered showing me your number then I can't be bothered answering the call + there's only certain places and people I give my landline/voip Ph number to if your not in my Ph's list of numbers then I'm looking to find out how you got it so I can go bollock someone for giving it out
