Following the info on locked thread http://www.geekzone.co.nz/forums.asp?forumid=85&topicid=110133 I am now able to connect my HTC One V to a UK VPN via 3g. Thanks guys. All I did was change the APN from 'internet' to 'direct'. It worked on wifi prior to that but never on 3g.

So just wondering - is there any downside to the change I made? Anything else I should do? Is this a more expensive method in terms of data etc? Thanks in advance...

The only thing to be aware of is that your device now has a public IP accessible over the internet. So just be aware of the security implications of that.

Ok, thank you. My partner is going to use it for a specific radio service so I expect she will be switching it on and off manually just when she wants to listen. The phone certainly won't be online all the time, so I guess not too much of an issue?

While I am on, any advantage / disadvantage of setting it up using L2TP over PPTP? The vendor offers both connection options.

L2TP would be the better option as it is only really PPTP that doesnt work over the 'internet' APN. PPTP doesn't work due to the way it uses a combination of different protocols and they are not handled in the same way by the NAT taking place when on the 'internet' APN.

Interestingly I think i will have to set up two connections on her phone. The L2TP one works great with 3G but not thru my home wifi. That works ok on PPTP tho'. Is this correct?
