Hi,

I recently went through the process of going with Slingshot for my preferred ISP because of their cheap rates and unlimited internet and I didn't want to get their default router as I'm a gamer and there's a few others that are in the house so we'd like to have a good ping (while I realize that the default Dynalink router can support multiple gamers online, I chose to get a WAG230N router).

Now, all seemed fine ONCE the internet was set up and I had to configure the router to work with Slingshot, that all seemed fine and then I was on the internet. The only problem that I'm having and this would annoy anyone, is the fact that I keep losing an internet connection every hour or so, and it doesn't automatically come back on, I have to turn the router off and back on. There's also a second problem, but I'd prefer it if the first one was fixed first, but the second one is that every now and then, none of the wireless devices can connect to the router, but they can see it, it just says (For my phone): "Invalid password" and for the laptops it just says the generic "Can't connect to this internet", generally I have to change the SSID name and then everyone has to re-connect to it, but I'd prefer a permanent solution.

Might I add: I've rung Cisco but I keep getting put into loops and I'd rather not have to ring them again and go through the same [pointless] process. I've also talked to Slingshot and they're gonna see what they can do on Sunday/Monday (I am also waiting for the Dynalink router to see if that fixes the problem).

Thanks, and sorry for the long process.

$10 says its the Linksys.

I now rank Linksys the worst router brand, bar none.

Dynalink routers are actually alright, I would change and never go back.

I cannot tell you how many times I have faced disconnection issues and wireless issues with clients Linksys routers. I would NEVER buy one (same goes for all Linksys equipment). Cisco are killing their name with them.

What are your ADSL line stats and how is the wiring configured in your home?

Have you performed a basic isolation test? The first thing you need to is is establish if it's your DSL sync dropping (likely a wiring related issue, quite possibly within your house) or the LAN connection dropping to the router.

Even though that Linksys might be faulty, I suggest a differnt wireless encryption mode. Mixed WPA2/WPA-PSK works well and solved my connectivity issues.

As for the default router from Slingshot...it is now a 4 port Netcomm or 4 port wireless N router. It is just a dynalink re-badge, but they are actually pretty good!

I suggest giving them a ring to see if they can arrange for one to be sent out after all. It is always good to have a second modem for troubleshooting.
