Hey guys,
We have just got home from the 2degrees store at Westfield in Christchurch. I went to help my mother sort out a issue with a s3 that she had brought earlier in the week.

She suffers from a disorder with her eyes that makes it hard to read some types of screens and the s3 screen with its exaggerated colours doesn't agree with her eyes as she can see a blueish tint in the screen which gives her headaches.

She brought up the issue at time of purchase with the blueish tint that she could see and the sales rep told her that you can just change the background which would fix the issue so she got the phone with the impression that she could remove the blueish tint that she could see on the screen.

After some time googling I am sure it cannot be done. So we went back into the store today and tried to take the phone back unsuccessfully.

We were dealing with a guy called Blair who was very unhelpful and rude stating that 2degrees have a strict no returns policy with no exemptions and when I asked on numerous occasions to speak to a manager he said that he "basically was one" and they would just say the same thing.

When I brought up what was said at the time of purchase he asked us to wait at the counter and he proceeded to have a chat with the sales rep that sold my mother the phone and after they were done he came back and told us that the sales rep has said the background could be changed and "nothing else".

Although that was not the impression that my mother had gotten at the time of purchase or she would not of purchased the phone as it is basically unusable to her as is. I could see that we were getting nowhere with Blair so I made Him take down my details and asked to be called back by a manager. So we both left feeling that we had been almost bullied by Blair. So does anyone have any advise as what to do next?

It seems pretty cut and dry, prior to purchase you advised the sales droid of this problem, the sales droid clearly told you that that by changing the background it would solve the problem.

If changing the background fails to fix the problem as the sales droid seemed to think then they must take the phone back.

At the end of the day you advised them of a potential problem, they assured you that there is a way around it, it's up to the store to fix the problem or take the phone back.

Worst case scenario, there are a couple of custom ROMs available for the s3 that have colour tuning that allows you to change the respective levels of red, green and blue for the whole display. Or it may be called colour warmth. In this case the screen is set to cool.

I second the custom rom idea if you don't achieve a desirable resolution

I highly disagree because this phone is going to be used by OP's mum.

One thing tho, maybe you can swap this for LG Nexus 4 available this week.
