This seems to be a constant topic across a number of ISPs but I've recently changed to Orcon Genius plan from Xtra and now can't get more than a few seconds of iSky (and some other streaming sites such as thedailyshow.com) before it starts buffering.

My dl is 16Mb/s and ul of 0.88Mb/s.

I've tried multiple computers and browsers. No difference.

There are instructions to change the host file for TelstraClear users but that doesn't seem to make any difference.

I've called Orcon and they just reset my profile and bounce my modem.

Any further ideas?

Isky is hosted on Orcons network, so you should be able to get excellent performance.

Remove the Telstraclear host entries, as they are bad news and try clearing your DNS cache.

Yeah, it should work great.

I've already removed the entries in the host file and rebooted but ran ipconfig /flushdns again anyway. No improvement.

Thanks for the suggestions though.

When I used iSky, I had to set my computer to use Orcon's DNS numbers (in TCP/IP properties).

Yes very good point

If you are using non-orcon DNS servers, it could result in you being served from a non-NZ cache server.

Interesting. I checked my config and the only dns server listed was 10.1.1.1 (my Orcon router). I've changed that to reflect the servers listed here:

http://www.orcon.net.nz/support/gfaq_page/what_are_your_dns_server_addresses

and then flushed my dns cache.

However, no improvement in iSky streaming.

Not sure if it's just the time of night but the general internet connection feels more sluggish now and when I go to speedtest.net it autofinds my closest server to be in New Plymouth (I'm in Auckland). It still has a 12Mb/s dl speed though so that's ok. Although I go there again and it says config error. *shrug*
