Hello Everyone,

Having some dramas with my postpay account. For some reason I went over the 1GB bundle and got a TXT alerting me.

I then a few days later got a TXT saying my GB bundle has renewed, but then a TXT a few days later saying I was at my spend limit.

I suspected some app went nuts on my phone, but am confused as 2 degrees said my 1GB bundle was renewed but it was not - so I went to buy another 1GB bundle but couldn't because of spend control.

I waited a few days, then unset spend control for the month, and then tried to buy a 1GB bundle but it kept rejecting because of my credit limit (I suspect its $150) So I paid my balance off in full so I had a $0 balance.

I then waited a day and tried to buy a 1GB pack but was still rejected. I called 2 degrees, and the girl I spoke to tried to explain how all their systems work for like 10-15 minutes and I really should have listened closer but the gist was I had to bring my account into credit. We agreed to put $50 credit, so I'm -$50 or in positive by $50.

I waited another day and then tried to buy a 1GB pack but that didn't work, so I called up again and another girl did some magic and I have a 1GB pack now, and my account should turn over on the 4th of Jan.

My questions are this.

1. The credit limit appears to be a limit of not how much I can owe 2 Degrees before they suspend services, but how much I can actually spend with them in a month. Is this correct?

2. Is there anyway to have my 2degrees data simply cut off after the 1GB pack gets used up, or alternatively renews and get's another 1GB pack as otherwise I get charged at something like $200/GB instead of $20. - Still much better than the old days with VF/XT @ $10000/GB on casual data but annoying none the less.

3. Is there anything I can do now, as I cannot check voicemails, and am on call over Christmas and am scared my data will run out again or I get a voicemail I can't clear.

I should also mention the first girl said I could call up once my account rolled over and get a credit for the casual data which is nice. I do like 2 degrees.

You perhaps need to talk to the appropriate person at 2degrees and they should look at your account behavior. If you have had a good history, Im sure they will look at giving you a higher limit.

If your on call, then maybey you might have to ease back on the non essential calls/data !
Just my thoughts..

2degrees billing is shocking, I've had months where their billing system would not renew my data pack and other months it would deduct normally. I have set a monthly top up automatically and the renewal has never been right from day one. It got to the point I got the CSR to write into the account profile that it is the n'th time this has happened and I would call them up again about the same issue

I'm happy with my credit limit, but just confused as it doesn't seem to be a credit limit so much as this is how much you can spend in a month limit - even if I pay it off in the month, it's still all I can 'spend in a month'. Do you have this experience?

I have already cut back on data, but I cannot clear my voicemails until the 4th. Hmmmm.

Just to confirm, Credit Limit and Spend Control are 2 different things.

Credit Limit is set by your credit rating at the time of signing up to Pay Monthly and can be exceeded, however we'll try to send you a text when you're within $10 of your limit.
We can review it and increase it if necessary and on request following a review of your account.

Spend Control is set by the customer and cannot be exceeded unless the customer overrides it (*100*5*2#) or turning it off in Your 2degrees or calling Care. http://www.2degreesmobile.co.nz/paymonthly/paying-your-bill/spend-control

In order to use your services you need to be below your limits and if there's a current 'unbilled balance' when trying to add a data pack it may fail to purchase.

Make sure you have your balance so it has enough in credit to cover the outstanding amount, the unbilled balance and any new value pack you want to add.

Dial *100# to see your balances or view in Your 2degrees - https://secure.2degreesmobile.co.nz/web/ip/login

PM me if you have any further queries.

Many thanks and Merry Xmas

Thanks for your reply. I talked to 2 degrees support and they confirmed that the Credit Limit is the limit you can spend with 2 Degrees in one month, not how much is outstanding on your bill.

I have also found out that if you are on pre-pay the 1GB $20 with renew when you run out of data, but on post pay, once the 1GB pack runs out, it will only renew on the new billing cycle. You will be charged at normal rates for data which works out to either $100 or $200/GB for data from memory.

Is there a way to get the 1GB pack to autorenew on post pay, or no use casual data on post pay?

Or do I have to move to pre-pay to get this feature?

If your wanting the pack to renew on pay monthly on consumption... your out of luck.
Data packs will not renew on consumption on pay monthly - only on the bill cycle. Even then, the 3GB and 12GB will not renew at all.

Have you thought about just getting one of the larger packs on your account?

The 1GB MBB pack will only auto-renew on your Pay Monthly account at the start of your billing cycle. If you're in a MBB zone it will use that data before your Plan's inclusive National Data (which can be used in or outside of our MBB zones).   That's why it's important to keep a check on your Pay Monthly data balances by checking online in Your 2degrees - https://secure.2degreesmobile.co.nz/web/ip/login - or dialing *100*4*3# from your 2degrees phone.

If you use up all your 1GB Pack data and Plan data within your billing cycle and continue using data you will be charged casual rates 50c per MB.  However we will try to send you a text when your pack or plan data allowance is running low.

Also the 3GB and 12BG MBB packs will not auto-renew on Pay Monthly, unlike Prepay.

Hope that helps.

Good to know. I might go prepay if this is the case, as within a few hours one day my phone used 600MB over my limit which at 50c a MB is massive. ($300?)

If I move to prepay do my accumulated minutes get transferred over, or do I lose those?

You lose them, the only thing that gets moved over is any left over Value pack balances.

Why not set a Spend Control limit to the amount you want to spend each month. You won't go over it unless you override it.  It puts you in better control and you'll keep all your Carryover mins, 1GB bonus, bonus mins for life and All You Need Texts - http://www.2degreesmobile.co.nz/paymonthly/paying-your-bill/spend-control

I tried that this month, and set a $30 spend control on my $29 plan, so I could check voicemails once a week, but once I hit my data allowance, the $1 was chewed through for data so I couldn't clear my voicemails.

Thanks 2 Degrees for all your help anyways. You have brought the price of mobiles down so much.

I think I'll jump on prepay next month.

You can override the limit to allow yourself to listen to your voicemails or set it at say $5?
