This is fairly amusing. We switched to Orcon a few months ago after being with <OLDISP> for many years, and at the time migrated to a gmail address for our mail email, so as to be ISP-neutral wrt email.

Time passes, everything seems fine.

Until today!! Apparently GMAIL has decided that my Orcon monthly bill is SPAM because "lots of messages from orcon.net.nz are spam".

This posting isn't meant to be a dig at Orcon; or Gmail; I'm sure both are trying their best with SPAM etc. However, it is an attempt to let one of the Orcon geekzoner's who can do "something" about it to know there is a problem, and perhaps they should work with Google to ensure their bills are actually delivered and not auto-spam-binned.

This could happen when Gmail users report advertising / marketing from Orcon as SPAM so then Gmail will start treating it as SPAM,

The only time email should be reported as SPAM is when it's clearly SPAM and not advertising / marketing from a company they have / had services with

Hi, this happens all the time, if a few thousand other gmail users who get sick of emails from the same Orcon address hit the spam button then the metrics end up doing this. There is a filter setting ie create a filter for the sender address and there is a filter option to never mark this as spam.

Absolutely agree with both your comments; as I stated, the intent was that someone from Orcon would see this post and then get an internal dialog with Google going to get the filter re-trained.

Well, *I* haven't marked my own bill as SPAM. I'm not entirely current with the latest technologies involved, but I would have thought that between Google and Orcon there could be some form of SMTP verification or whitelisting or <insert technology of choice>.

Not an expert (any more, sadly, those days were a few years ago); just a highly opinionated customer... :-)

(That was supposed to be a joke, just to clarify!)

It doesn't say that messages from this sender are usually spam, it says messages from the domain orcon.net.nz are frequently spam. Remember, all Orcon customers have emails @orcon.net.nz, same as the Orcon generic emails such as support, bills, and so on (specific staff are @team.orcon.net.nz).

Coupled with the fact that Orcon used to provide free emails to anyone who signed up for one - in the same domain as their corporate emails - and it's no surprise that they have some shady individuals sending email.

Yes, my latest bill was in the gmail spam folder as well. The prev ones weren't.
