Kyanar: You can't. The new ISP is completely reliant on Chorus to do the provisioning, and for the most part the actual provisioning date is "best effort". It's a catch-22 really - if you give your current ISP 30 days notice then the new ISP may take 40 days to provision, leaving you without internet. If you don't, the current ISP will bill you for a month you aren't with them.
Personally, I think that the "30 days notice" provision is a scam plain and simple. ISPs know that you cannot in practice actually give them 30 days notice, but include it so they can bleed another month's payment out of you.

old3eyes: This is an opportune post. I was going to post the same thing as I see folks have given Orcon the 30 days notice and get cut off immediately and then have no Internet for days while the new ISP gets it connected..

Did you move from Orcon, how did you end up doing it in the end?

Yes I moved to Telecom. I waited until the Telecom account was up and running then emailed Orcon and advized them of the 30 day termination request. They said gave me the termination date which was fine with me but it was not terminated on that date and kept on going. It took several emails to them to terminate the account mean while they were still monthly billing me. Several more emails later they have given me a credit of $92 which was supposed to be credited back yesterday but I see it hasn't yet so maybe more emails if not done next week..

Right so you got in contact with Telecom first, did you request a change over date 3 weeks out or so? Once you'd signed up with Telecom you then contacted Orcon anout termintating?

Oh ok right. And they charged you for most of that month which you didn't actually use?
