Hmmmmm
Just moved to an area that gets ADSL2 and let me say I am very happy with the speeds but compared to what i had before anything would be better
Anyway
I thought that when i moved here i would try the italk service and see if i could get rid of my landline and go naked!

so at present I have 250gb pack and landline and italk works out at about $120 - $160a month
if i go to naked I have to take Unlimited (no 250gb plan) and including the italk line its $90

big diffrence but

Ive been on unlimited before and at times it seemed to come to a grinding halt

so any suggestions or thoughts about unlimited and naked now??

I've been on the Slingshot Unlimited plan for >1yr and it's really good.  I presume they do some sort of traffic shaping but I can't tell when.  I'd recommend it!

+1 for the above. I've been on the plan since Nov 2011 and although some downloads are affected during peak times everything else is usually pretty good. When I say the speeds are affected It's still going at 0.5-0.8MB/s so not bad at all.

Things like gaming/youtube/general browsing are all as slick as usual.

I moved to Tawa (so not even remotely central Wellington) a few months ago. I was in Palmerston North before that. Only thing that has changed is that I have doubled the speed down here. Everything else was the same in P.N as it is here.

I have unlimited naked and italk and get 15mbps down and .9 mbps up in Hamilton. I haven't noticed a slowdown at any stage so far and even when downloading or youtubing italk is great. Even the youtube videos that haven't been cached seem to download fine.

It is good enough that even when fibre is blown through in May I have no need to consider it and won't be until Slingshot have an unlimited plan for a similar price.

I agree with the general sentiment here - I've been consistently impressed with Slingshot unlimited. After switching from Telecom wholesale to their "better network" we got a further 40% boost, which has been lovely.

Overall, I get a consistent 1.3-1.4MB/s on international data for the bulk of the time. Between 6pm and 11pm it can be unpredictable, but not so much that youtube has problems or anything.

I've been on the Unlimited plan (Non-Naked) for nearly a year myself, Had a few issues signing up but they where cleared up fairly quickly and I haven't had any real issues since.

Speeds do fluctuate a bit but always seem to remain within tolerable ranges and most of the time I'm able to use the full bandwidth of my 18Mbps connection, Although recently I have started to utilize Annex M so that has dropped.

Overall I have been quite impressed, Not a lot of other options that would let me use fairly constant 700GB a month I seem to use, Although that spiked to 1TB last month.

i've been on NDSL for a few years and a year on Unlimited - i appreciate the extra Gb for big downloads every now and again but overseas streaming is frequently stuttered at peak times. My line syncs at 12Mb/1Mb but for example just now checked slingshots own LAX server speedtest - 3Mb down. That's pretty slow... now wondering whether i should switch back to 30gb or Snap...

seriously why do people need unlimited and put up with slow speeds during peak time , im with Snap and with there unlimited night time and unlimited youtube i went through just under 500 GB last month and for all that i paid $102 and that includes a Voip line and the speed is constant

Common sense is not as common as you think.

well i can't be bothered because of the free Italk VOIP included with ADSL - free local calls and 500min anywhere in the world - pretty damn good. have a feeling Slingshot'd mess me around if i tried to switch to Snap but keep only Italk (and start paying 11/month for it).
