Hi there,

Title says it all.  This occured in Snap Dayz server: Chernarus.  A player named GoA Admiral Ackbar camps cherno sniping spot in the middle whom I sneaked up to and managed to kill.  Next thing I know is his body is unlootable and he threatens me that he is an admin and if I don't leave he will kill me.  So I left after taking a screenshot (which failed and took a screenshot of my desktop).  I went back up to bait him to chat which he didn't.  All he did was stood right back up and shot me in the face.

After I respawn, another GoA player with 'Bazing' in his name came up to me and asked me to type and show him my name.  I didn't know it was him and typed.  He just replied ok and suicided repeatedly for god knows why.

Please get it sorted or keep an eye on them.  I'm sure many already notice them hacking but because the server does not allow side-chat, no one is communicating about it.

edit: clarification.

Snap probably runs a Dayz gaming server.

Snap runs\hosts a DayZ server, which is where one would assume this hacking took place. Should probably be posted in the Gaming section with an explanation that it occurred on the snap servers though.

Upon seeing 2 other Dayz threads on Snap forums.  I figured it was fine for me to add my thread here as well.  I am not sure if it is Snap's problem but it sure doesn't help with their reputation when they're hosting a server with a hacker running around claiming hes an admin.  Snap seems pretty dedicated on their maintenance with Dayz so I would think they want feedback when things turn sour on their servers.

I think snap peeps have said in the past that they administer the ban hammer on it, so I guess they're "responsible" in some form. Probably not high on their priority list but a nice little service for gamers I guess.

Also,  I posted it here because the snap servers is not hosted on behalf of someone else.  They run it themselves with snap advertisement on loading screen etc.  If the hacker is indeed an admin rather than it being a lie (which you can't always be sure of) then it gives me more of a reason to post here.

The servers are always updated and they spend a lot of effort keeping hacks as low as possible.  Surely someone at Snap is dedicated enough about Dayz to constantly update it and would like concerns from the community to be addressed.

I rather have this discussion here because it's a Snap service, than in the gaming forum. Let's see what happens, keep us posted.

This will sound highly pessimistic, but until Stand Alone is out, constantly banning the hoards of DayZ hackers (Sckidiots) out there at the moment doesn't sound like a very productive use of anyone's time.

Personally, I'm just waiting until Stand Alone is out to play it again. Even the possibility of people cheating just wrecks the whole experience for me.

Hey there,

Thanks for reporting the issue.

I have investigated the reported player and while I cannot find any evidence of hacking, I can confirm that he was impersonating an admin which warrants a temporary ban. Removal of ban will be based on my discussion with him/her.

This is a Snap "hosted" service run by Snap staff during our own personal time. Therefore, I believe any Snap gaming queries should be made on the gaming section. Feel free to also email us at gaming@snap.net.nz.

Thanks

well i'm still none the wiser about the game or how so many people can " hack" into it but it sounds an interesting game so may take a peek to satisfy the curiosity.

Thanks Ralph,

Will post in the relevant section in future.

jeffnz:  The game is a mod of Arma 2.  The game allows people to plug in scripts which allows them to spawn vehicle, weapons etc.  However the less obvious hacks wouild be things like auto-aim or wallhack which is not detectable especially when players cannot spectate others.

Otherwise its a really fun game and everything that happens in it is a 'story'.  Other than flipping my ATV last night and killing myself after hours of playing.  If you die in this game you have to restart a fresh character and scavenge.

Hey man, just to add to what Ratez said:

Again, DayZ is a mod based on ArmaII which is a realistic Millitary/war game.  The goal of DayZ is to survive, gather resources and defend/attack other players in a zombie infested world. It's an extremely fun game to play solo but even better as a team where you would integrate teamwork into the highly tactical game-play

ArmaII has a very open platform which allowed DayZ to be created in the first place but it also allowed others to created their own custom scripts which can be easily injected into the server; giving them gear, teleport, mass kill etc.  These hacks are sold to others and have unfortunately plagued DayZ for some time now.

DayZ now depends on active admins or whitelisted servers to keep the awesome DayZ experience. Some servers like Snap have implement their own server-side anti-cheat which helps a 'bit' (deployed recently by Snap).

I definitely advise to give DayZ a go or you could wait till the standalone version comes out.  This is DayZ remade by the original developers with better security, programming, more features and no longer relies on ArmAII to be played.
