Hi GUys, can you please advise if you are having issue with Slingshot dns atm? currently all my machines at home could not resolve this site remote.pb.com.au - would not resolve IP address. dont worry about the ping reply as I disabled icmp on remote.pb.com.au.

but guess what, it works fine if I change my dns with google 8.8.8.8

my current dns are (slingshot)
  • Primary: 202.180.64.10
  • Secondary: 202.180.64.11
Can you please try pinging remote.pb.com.au

note that I have already rebooted by modem and router.

Thanks
Chris

Slingshot customer here....

NSLookup to that address fails.

Edit: I'm using the same DNS servers, though I have 11 as the primary and 10 as the secondary.

Hi, I'm with slingshot and am using their Dns servers as well. I cannot access or ping the http address but can access the https address. I'm on the AYCE plan at the moment.

So I was just getting a bunch of redirects to a site called linkbucks... now, I'm the only one who uses this PC, noscript and adblock installed, regular virus scans, so I thought something was fishy. Hosts file was okay, malwarebytes turns up nothing

Changed my DNS to google DNS, and no more problem - DNS poisoning maybe?

Move to New Zealand's best fibre broadband service (affiliate link). Free setup code: R587125ERQ6VE. Note that to use Quic Broadband you must be comfortable with configuring your own router.

If you set Google DNS, then you must have set it in the modem manually.  Have you tried Slingshot DNS set manually in the modem.  It's not unheard of for a virus to infect a common modem.  Even though it is extremely unlikely.

EDIT.  It could still be malware on the computer using the DNS settings in the computer or similar.
A quick google search reveals that it is a common infection which can affect multiple devices at one time it seems.  It would suggest to me if that is the case that the modem was infected, but a lot of people seem to solve thiswith a scan and reboot. Others report success simply by rebooting their modem.
