I have already moved away because 2degrees can't seem to get their SMS systems working right. Now another friend of mine is complaining that she isn't getting her texts. I'm buying her a telecom phone. Sort your stuff out.

We both live in the Wellington CBD.

What phone does she have? Sure she doesn't have memory issues on the phone?

Samsung Note20 Ultra, on 2degrees

Hi SteveON

Can you PM the number affected and the make/model if known please?

Have they reported it to Care on 200?

Cheers

She has a cheap $50 phone, my ex had an iPhone 4s with the same issue and I had a HTC one X with the issue. Sorry but I can't be bothered with posting numbers and times e.t.c. It should just work.

With that attitude, I wouldnt expect a fix/investigation in a hurry then.

Theres no point going to a provider complaining about the service if you cant offer examples/proof.

to be fair If you don't report problems they can't fix them. I remember I had a problem sending from 2degrees to a ported skinny number where texts from Vodafone and telecom were working. turned out the issue was on the vodafone side though. Thanks agin to Johnr for promptly sorting that one out.

Are you taking the piss?

So far the problem has affected, my ex girlfriend, four of my closest friends, (one of their mothers as well), my mother, my brother, my mothers friend, myself and a number of other friends who are all on 2degrees. Almost all my friends on 2degrees have complained at some point, yet none of my friends on Vodafone or Telecom have complained.

Should I tell everyone to track down the missing texts, time and date? or advise them to move to a network that actually delivers texts? The consumer should not sort out network providers problems, that's the network providers job.

At the end of the day you get what you pay for; I would rather pay $10-$20 more a month for better quality service.

2degrees txt works fine for me. There were problems in the past, but after I reported them they were fixed and I haven't had problems since.

Maybe you have something like Steve Jobs reality distortion field, but with text messages.

There are several hundred thousand others also using the 2degrees network and experiencing no issues whatsoever, myself included.

Expecting you to provide a couple of examples from your own personal phone is not a huge deal and most certainly not something that is the network provider's responsibility to proactively look for and fix. If they do not have a report of a problem they can only assume everything is functional.

Unless you are willing to assist with sorting out this problem I would recommend taking your soapbox to the local pub. I'm sure people there want to hear you moan about your missing SMS messages and how awful an entire company is in your personal experience.

I left 2degress a couple of years ago partly because of this problem.  A couple of my friends still complain about not receiving some texts.  The issue has existed for a long time and it still exists.  There is only so much customers can do before they just give up, so I fully understand where the OP is coming from.

I acknowledge your frustration with this and that it should just work, however SMS can fail or be delayed on all networks for a number of reasons; phone settings, wrong SMSC, phone storage, network traffic, coverage issues, wrong number, number portability etc which is why we need examples to check things through and try to get to the cause of the issue.

If you could flick me a PM with the numbers affected with times/dates, location and phone make/model I'd really appreciate it and we'll have something to work on.

Cheers

I've been seeing problems with text delivery just recently, never had them before. Only looked on here to see if anyone else was having issues. Details PM'd to @2degreesCare.

My son seems to be having this problem right now. His 2D prepay phone is not receiving text's but he can send them just fine. Everything was working until yesterday. He has called customer support, they got him to buy a blank simcard and moved his number to it, made no difference. He has also tried a number of other handsets. Being just 15, living in the same house as him during this period of text isolation is verging on the unbearable.

I'm currently in California with an AT&T pre-paid SIM card and I am able to receive texts from my wife in NZ using 2degrees. But she doesn't receive my texts. Any idea why, 2degrees? It would be nice if it worked, but I can always Skype. It could be the fault of AT&T, of course.

David.
