I've just made the transition from a Windows laptop to a macbook pro and have just discovered that my 2degrees USB modem is not compatible. Trying to install the driver software from the USB stick causes the software to freeze.

Does anyone know if the newer, faster usb modem is compatible with the Mountain Lion?

Do you need the software? See whether the device shows up in the left panel of System Preferences > Network. I've found that about 50% of the time devices will show up there and not require any software.

technically you don't need the software if you know how to set it up. The software helps provide usage info, signal strength etc - may be worthwhile using

It specifically says it's not compatible for the older $49 modem, but doesn't say the same for the newer, $99 modem.

Ok, we can ignore this thread now - it's working :)

I was confused because the first time I plugged the modem in it wasn't recognised at all. I just tried it again and it was recognised just fine and has connected perfectly - I'm using it now.

So no need to upgrade to a new USB modem and I can delete the useless 2degrees app.
