Really frustrating. This has only been happening in the last few weeks and it seems to be getting worse. I can't seem to access certain websites, or if I can, some load very slowly - worse than dial up.

Example: I cannot load speedtest.net at all, yet reddit and trademe load just fine. Firefox just shows and endless 'connecting' message. I can't play games which require an always-on connection on my iPhone through WiFi, yet I can play them through my 3G connection - which is ridiculous. Another example: Sometimes imgur.com links won't load, yet flickr.com loads just fine.

It doesn't seem to be browser specific, or device specific. My router is relatively new.

For what it's worth, I can still ping speedtest.net and get a response.

I'm on Slingshot's 100GB/month plan in Wellington. Any suggestions?

Is it just one PC. Could be the PC software. I had a problem with a computer running ASUS PC performance software, and the network monitor cause all sort of  speed problems. Uninstalled and it instaly fixed the  problem,

Nope. As per my initial post, it's on all devices I connect to my slingshot connection.

Titahi Bay. Modem is a Netgear N300, purchased approx. 6 months ago.

My dl/ul speeds aren't actually diminished, just website & connection availability.

Well it is either the modem, or a problem related to your ISP, which could include the line and connection. Probably best to either test another router/modem, or contact your ISP.

Have you changed ISP or plans lately? Are you using the correct DNS for your ISP?

I've been having similar connection issues lately. Quite often I'll have to stop and reload (sometimes more than once) to connect to a website. This isn't a browser issue either given that I'm using Chrome and the OP was using Firefox.

Further to that I've been getting ridiculously poor speeds since the school holidays started. I realise this isn't something Slingshot has control over but being a rural customer I only get a 1.8Mb connection anyway on a good day. Surely we could be given some sort of priority given we actually pay an extra $10 a month for the service

As an example it takes a good 3 or so minutes to load the stuff.co.nz home page.

This seems like its something to do with DNS based on your speedtesting is still to your line rate. I would factory reset the modem, set manual dns (202.180.64.10 and 202.180.64.11) into the modem and set the MTU to 1492 and try browsing again. Is the issue persistent with ethernet too? I wonder if you get a bit of interferrence at times on the wifi which is causing the slow lookup.

Cheers
Mike

Not only could it be interfearence but I find sometimes modems make secret weird and wonderful rules which a factory reset will resolve. I say secret rule, because it is as if the router is blocking you based on a firewall rule that does not exist.
