I just received an email from orcon today stating that they are going to decommission the O zone and this is what it said

Hi there,

Just a note from us about some network changes you should be aware of.

SKY TV has made some changes to its iSKY system that mean it’s really difficult for us to keep zero-rating it as part of our O Zone. You can read about it here

When SKY change their system, which will be sometime in June (we can’t control the exact date as it’s their call) we will no longer be zero-rating iSKY. Seeing as it was the major component of the O Zone (the group of sites that we zero-rate data for) we have decided to wind up the O Zone offering from your next billing period (23rd June).

O Zone made a lot of sense when the average data cap was only a few GBs. But now that our base cap on our Genius and LLU plans is 30GB, and the Unlimited plan is our most popular one, we think we are best to focus on delivering great value plans, with data allowances that let you surf wherever you want to surf, without limiting yourself to certain sites.

If you are keen to get more data, you can upgrade to our most popular plan with a couple of clicks of your mouse. It’s Unlimited for just $99/month.

Nobody will be unmetering isky anymore. So switching to another ISP won't help.

And as they say, move to unlimited and you won't care about whether a site is unmetered or not.

I'm not a heavy user so staying within my 60GB is pretty easy I'm also not an sky account holder so this bit about iSky doesn't effect me either but the loss of TVNZ on demand did as did the loss of steams zero rating

I just posted this in here out of interest and to see what other people thought of the slow decline of the Ozone and now it's total disappearance sometime in June

Personally I am unaffected by the loss of isky but I thought I would check out what other sites were included in the (shortly former) Ozone.  The support article covering this is now gone (I presume - a search of Support for 'Ozone' returned no results).  So from memory it was isky, Trademe, everything in the Orcon domain (specifically orcon.net.nz web pages and mail servers) and a few other websites I don't remember the names of.

The email announcing the demise of the Ozone makes no reference to the Orcon domain, implying that using orcon.net.nz will incur data count against your data cap for capped accounts.  I suppose that this amounts to no more than a few mb per month but I wish Orcon could have spelt this out in detail.

The end of O-zone is a loss for me. I am a new Orcon customer (signed-up in May) and the zero-rated sites meant that I could easily keep within the 30GB cap. It was an important selling point for me.

I use iSKY frequently so I will have to change to the 60GB plan for next month's billing (an additional $168 per year). A good thing for Orcon's revenue but if I had known before signing-up I would have chosen another ISP.

Oy vey.
