Hi, I am wondering if anyone has had a dedicated ADSL line install organized with slingshot. We are keeping our phone
line just getting a dedicated line for ADSL do they use a splitter at the entry point from outside?

Could I ask why not use your current phone line? ou will be paying a lot extra for the and possibly much more for the install. They will do it though.

It also depends on your premises and whether there are at least 2 lines coming to your demarc from the street and if there are spare pairs on your internal wiring.

We have just had a monitored alarm put in and been having sync issues when I called slingshot they recommend getting a dedicated line installed I hope they are just splitting the connection at the ETP, They have given me a price and everything I am just wondering how they go about putting it in, If it daisy chains of already existing wiring or if they put in new cable

You could ditch your alarm provider or make them upgrade you to an IP solution. Otherwise you'll need to ask Slingshot to organise a Chorus visit and depending on your situation pay for a second line to be installed.

I don't think i need a new phone line more a dedicated line from the ETP, that is separate from all the old internal house wiring

I don't actually understand your questrion. Are you getting a new naked install because you have a monitored alarm and don't have a master filter? Or are you simply asking about the install cost for a master filter which is mandatory if you have a monitored alarm? (And should be mandatory for every ADSL install anyway)

A dedicated line for your ADSL would mean having an aditional circuit runing from the exchange/cabinet into your house and to jackpoint with additional line rental changes etc added to you bill.

The more practical solution is to have your wiring altered and have a master spliter installed before the in house wireing and have a 'dedicated jkpt' for your xDSL service. (This may have been what the slingshot rep had been indicating rather than a 'dedicated line')

As has been commented on if the Alarm installers had done a 100% job on their install they could have done this when they did their work but most just do their bit and dont care or understand the rest of house wireing

I have answered on your other post about what they do to the wireing to dedicate your xDSL service

He wants a dedicated line from one of his jacks to the ETP. It is 200 or 300 dollars depending on the job and is worth getting done alarm or not. :)

If your alarm company installed an alarm and didn't install a master filter I'd hate to see the quality of their alarm ystem install - this really is just the signs of an inept technician who obviously doesn't care about a quality installation.

I just got off phone with slingshot, they have explained it to me, that when the chorus tech comes up he will alter internal house wiring and set up a dedicated jack to the ETP, also I was not at home when the monitored medical alarm got put in and so parents did not ask about how it could affect broadband they just put a normal filter on line

Wow, they just put a regular ADSL in-line filter on the jack? The guy must not have known the first thing about how the system works.

A medical alarm needs to be hard wired using a line grabber configation - if it's not wired like this you really need to be getting the alarm company back to actually wire it correctly. If it's not wired like this it's completely useless as the alarm can't dial out if the person is on the phone or the phone is off the hook when they trigger the medical alarm. Installing a line grabber type setup with broadband requires the mandatory installation of a master filter.

This really sounds likes somebody installing alarms who is really out of their league and has no knowlwedge of what they're actully doing.

Generally they know their alarm systems very well and just flat out don't care how the phone is wired as long as the alarm can phone home.
These days I don't think I would hire a company that does just alarms. They don't have the knowledge to do a proper install. I also don't think anyone should bother installing alarms with PSTN monitoring devices. If a company can't give an IP solution they are flat out useless.

And to add to his, many medical alarms are not hard wired - they just plug in using a standard jack filter. My grandfathers one was like this.

The medical alarm industry is very different from the house alarm industry.
