Hey guys,
I'm currently on Ohakune (I'm a 2degrees customer roaming on Vodafone) and getting extremely intermittent texts/data and no calling. I'm guessing the vodafone coverage here is overloaded? Can anyone confirm?

Example of continuous ping

it might well be worth asking 2degrees how their performance is - data is still ultimately routed via them.

Might it have something to do with 7000+ people being there in the weekend for Mardi Gras? Perhaps there are still plenty around.

I'm on Vodafone, and data is virtually unusable during the ski season.  During Mardi Gras weekend, texts and calls are also unusable.  They definitely are not able to cope with the increase of people up there over winter.

I notice that Telecom has put in an extra cell site called "OHAKUNE MARDI GRAS" presumably for this event, in addition to the one they have in Ohakune already.

Guess that explains why all my friends on Telecom had reception all weekend.

I've never had a problem in Ohakune on Telecom or Skinny during the weekdays or weekends in Ohakune or up the mountain.

Hi there

I've checked with our networks team, we significantly increased capacity in the area ahead of the event. If you're having problems with coverage please let us know and we'll get a fault ticket lodged with our techs. Our contact address is onlinecare@vodafone.co.nz or call 0800 921 021.

Cheers

Dylan

Cheers,

I'll see how I go next time up up there, which should be soon, weather permitting.

Would love to see some stats on customers of Telecom Vs customers of Vodafone data usage patterns. I know there are a lot of Vodafone sites with a truckload more capacity that Telecom sites, yet the Vodafone sites seem to get hammered a lot more.
