i'm having a user problem with Your 2degrees and was wondering if someone here could help. Is it possible for a sim in a mobile broadband stick to sign up for a Your 2degrees login?

when attempting to sign up for a login via the New User page, none of the numbers i entered works and the error says it is not a recognised number. i've tried the following formats

1) +64221234567
2) 64221234567
3) 0221234567
4) 221234567

also is there an easier way to check the $ balance/internet cap left on a broadband only sim stick? the 2 degrees software that is auto loaded only sends texts when it is low, which doesn't really help me as i'm on a 12GB 6 monthly plan so i want to ensure i keep to my 2GB/month limit. the software has a usage counter that can be reset, but again that doesn't really tell me how much i've actually used in total.

any help appreciated.

No. 3 should definitely have worked. Sure you have the right number? Put it in a phone and dial *101# to check. Likewise the 2degrees software dashboard should be able to use USSD to check it for you.

As Salty says option 3 will work.

Another way to get your balance apart from Your 2degrees would be to pop the SIM in a phone and dial *100*1# and the remaining data balance will appear on screen.

Alternatively call Care on 0800 022022 enter the SIM's 022 number and an agent will be able to tell you.

2 more things to add.

Was the sim a new sim or did it come with the stick? If it was a new one then it needs to be "activated" first by calling 200 and setting up a pin number before you can register it for "your 2degrees". As far as I am aware the sims that come with the sticks are already pre activated.

The balance is quite easy to check in the software that comes on the stick, there is a tab on the upper right hand side called "my account", Just click on the update button and it will give you your current balance of $, Texts, Mins, and MB

My opinions are purely my own and are not at all those of my employer 2degrees.

@toledo: the sim came with the stick, and has been used previously with the $20 1GB pack. i just helped put it on the $100 12 GB pack which is much better value.

the software does not have a tab on the upper right hand side called "my account". it only has 4 tabs available,

  • file - connection, statistics, text, phonebook

  • operation

  • tools - pin operation, choose device, diagnostics, options

  • help - online help, about 2degrees broadband

i checked the help - 2degrees broadband and it shows 2degrees Mobile Broadband 16.002.03.01.723 (c) 2004-2010 huawei etc. i'm guessing this is old software hence the trouble i'm getting?

@ saltynz: i think i had the wrong sim number. i used tools - diagnostics and it shows MSISDN = Unknown. the message centre number is +64220227672 which is what i entered previously for trying to sign up. i'm thinking i'm wrong here?
