The Snap website is pretty low on information...

"Snap Plus phone line" - what is this?
Is installation included on their UFB plans?
Is a modem included?

Based off my intel,
The Snap Plus phone line is in other teams Snap VoIP.
Not to sure on the installation they say its needed to be determined on a case-by-case basics.

On a 2 year contract you can get the fritz box 7340 for free or the 7390 model for 50$ (thats on a 2 year contract)

Thanks Mike. I can't see that anywhere on their website.

Any idea about modem costs if I don't sign up for two years? I don't like being locked in longer than necessary, just in case performance or service is substandard.

Wikipedia suggests the 7340/7390 are ADSL/VDSL. Is there a fibre version as well, or is that just a router that's separate from the modem?

Sorry yes if you go no contact your looking at.

As far as I know (don't take my word on it) they just use the first lan port and they connect that to the ONT and do some config and ur good to go on fibre.
I'm pretty sure this is correct cause they ship the same modem for adsl/vdsl and fibre.

We have the 7340 for fibre, as mikenzb said it connects to the ONT via the first lan port.

Used to be $150 to do an early termination of the 2 year contract in the second year I think, which worked out cheaper if you wanted a FritzBox and only 1 year connected, I see they have ammended that (And fair enough too).

So you need a FritzBox and another piece of equipment which basically works like a modem - terminating the fibre? Is the Fritzbox mandatory, or can I use a different router? My old WRT54GL works fine.

Afaik it just has to be a router than can do VLAN tagging and PPPoE, so you can use anything. I use fritzbox at home (ADSL) and work (UFB) and haven't had a problem. It's nice that they do IPv6 natively as well.

Thanks Noodles. I don't really understand networking to that level so I'd probably go with the standard, especially if it does IP6.

I'd suggest to upgrade the WRT54GL to something newer if you are using it for wifi - Wireless G is going to hamper your UFB performance.

My PC is on wired, the only thing I have on wireless is the Android tablet and when I get around to buying it an Android phone. Those don't need super speed, but I probably will upgrade one day to a router that can do VPN in hardware or at least much faster.
