It's only been in the last 36 hours, but when I do a speed test on my PC I get 56mbps download and .9mbps uploaded.

Then I use my cell phone and I get 25mbps download and 45mbps upload.

I'm on Snaps fastest UFB plan.

I called them and they were no help.

Both using wifi? Or is the PC wired? Same speedtest location? What about trying different locations?

What server are you using in each case? Is there actually a performance problem in everyday usage?

That robot really is totally useless.

What model cellphone and wireless router? 25mbps will almost certainly be a limitation of the phones wifi (and to a lesser extent, CPU) capabilities, most of them are pretty awful. PC's usually have much better antenna's and more CPU power to process the data.

45mbps upstream doesn't sound right at all though, is there a decimal point missing there?

Phone is an S4. Router is their top model Fritz Box

Same Christchurch server

Every day is OK, web pages load fast. But then gaming is laggy through the PS3

I've also found the mobile speedtest app to misreport quite often especially on upload, on ADSL2+ I got several tests where the upload was 2mb/s or more which simply wasn't possible.

In fact some times when doing a speed test the upload part just sits at connecting and never actually performs the test.

Also this does seem to be a case of differing network speeds, due to varying wireless source devices and receivers. Rather than the throughput on your WAN/Modem.

The PS3 is probably Sony's fault, they have very few servers in NZ for anything, most things are at least Australia, I've always found their link to be pretty hopeless.

The S4 has a single antenna and supports 802.11n at 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz. (It also supposedly supports 802.11ac but very few routers support that).

If you can, disable wifi encryption on your router, then remove & re-add the entry on the S4 and run the test again and see if it makes any difference, make sure you re-enable it afterwards.

If the router is configured for 802.11n at 5Ghz then the S4 should be good for 40-50Mbps. It will be a configuration and/or hardware issue and very unlikely to be the ISPs problem I would've thought.

The mobile Speedtest.net client is known to frequently give inaccurate (high) results for asymmetric links in the upstream direction.

Thing is, nothing has changed. I was getting great upload speeds through the PC on Wednesday....

Was getting around 35-40 upload through the PC

try disabling any qos setting on upload of modem, if that doesn't work try setting it really high.

it sounds like it's trying to limit it to dsl appropriate upload speeds.

as someone else said, mobile speedtest.net application unreliable (normal speedtest.net on pc is pretty inaccurate on fast connections too, but should be accurate enough to determine if you have uploading fault or not)
