I've got a cheapie no-name Android phone from China that claims to do 900MHz WCDMA.  I'd like to see if that part of the specifications is a lie.

Where, near Wellington (or en route to Wanganui, where trips to the in-laws take us), could I expect to have 900MHz 3G coverage, and no 2100MHz?

Hi

I guess the Vodafone Mobile Coverage map would be a good "indication" You can differentiate by the colors on the page:

3G Broadband - Red: 2100 MHz
3G Extended - Orange/Amber: 900 MHz

You need to cross-check it with the 2degrees site, though.  Vodafone has only "3G extended" coverage in Bulls, but it's now a 2Degrees Mobile Broadband Zone.  Ratana might be an option, though -- that's not a 2degrees mobile broadband zone, but does have Vodafone Extended 3G.  Assuming that 2degrees customers aren't locked out of the VF cellsite.

I guess if I get 3G there it's proof of 900MHz 3G on this handset.
