Has anyone else recently had issues with images on Facebook not loading?
I've been having this issue for almost a week now, and it seems to be a routing problem with IPv6.

C:\Users\Lorenceo>tracert fbcdn-sphotos-a-a.akamaihd.net
Tracing route to a1001.dspw40.akamai.net [2404:4408:2:51cc::77e0:81cb] over a maximum of 30 hops:
  1    <1 ms    <1 ms    <1 ms  2406:e000:exx::x
  2     6 ms     6 ms     6 ms  2406:e000:97:1::1
  3     *        *        *     Request timed out.
4  Destination host unreachable.
Trace complete.

However it works as normal over IPv4:

C:\Users\Lorenceo>tracert -4 fbcdn-sphotos-a-a.akamaihd.net
Tracing route to a1001.dspw40.akamai.net [119.224.129.248]over a maximum of 30 hops:
1    <1 ms    <1 ms    <1 ms  RT-N16 [192.168.2.1]
2     6 ms     6 ms     6 ms  16.17.69.111.static.snap.net.nz [111.69.17.16]
3     6 ms     6 ms     6 ms  54.32.69.111.static.snap.net.nz [111.69.32.54]
4     6 ms     5 ms     6 ms  callplus2.ape.nzix.net [192.203.154.47]
5     6 ms     6 ms     5 ms  vlan4081-cpcak3-r1.tranzpeer.net [101.98.1.145]
6     6 ms     6 ms     5 ms  119-224-129-248.akamai.callplus.net.nz [119.224.129.248]
Trace complete.

Have tried restarting modem + router, both to no avail.

Also this forum doesn't seem to like copy + pasting results with the new line character in them, had to edit those results so they'd display properly.X

We've also been having problems accessing our own site from Snap today via IPv6 (it's served through Akamai). It seems it's being routed through Australia and there's a massive latency on one of the telstra links.

We have tickets with Snap and Akamai, but no action has been taken yet.

Anyone from Snap going to respond to this thread or my ticket? It seems once again that although Snap offers ipv6, they don't seem to care that much about it (as we still don't have static ipv6 allocations, network problem tickets go unanswered etc).

Hi Noodles,

Sorry for the delay on this, this is a confirmed Akamai issue, so we are dependent on them for a resolution of this - at the moment you can use IPv4 to get to your site, but hopefully they will fix their IPv6 issue soon, we have this open as high priority with them, but it is outside our network so we have little control over it.

Thanks,
TheRalph

Thanks for the reply Ralph. Is the Akamai issue from Lorenceo related? That looks to be a problem within Snap's network (compared to ours which looks to be a Telstra issue). I also see the problem that Lorenceo has reported.

On a side note, any sign of static ipv6 allocations?

Yep, as others have said I've had the same issue at home, Snap, UFB, Fritz!Box. If I really want to view the images I just use 3G on my cell phone.

Hi All - quick update problem has been identified and will be resolved shortly.

For static IPv6 prefix's over Residential DSL and UFB, sorry this has been delayed, its part of a software authentication update which is under progress, hopefully its not too far away.

Thanks,
TheRalph

Any resolution for this? It seems that both Akamai and Snap are waiting for Telstra to fix a problem on their network. Is there not a way to route around this problem (although that's probably Akamai's problem then)?

Hi Noodles,

Yes it is a Akamai issue and completely out of our network - affecting other SP's too. the ETA for a resolution is today (you could temporally turn off IPv6 and it will work for you)

Thanks,
Ralph

Thanks for the update Ralph, I'm leaning on Akamai as well.

I had to turn off IPv6 on my Fritz!Box. I couldn't get any facebook images to load at all on my Android phone. YouTube videos now work on my partners Android phone with IPv6 off. Has this been resolved Ralph?
