Can anyone on Snap (any service), manage high quality video streaming on theverge.com?
They seem to use ooyala.com streaming, which from a quick dig appears to be akamai.

Streaming high quality seems to buffer often, and streaming medium quality buffers sometimes. Brief testing gives me slightly varied results per video.

This is on my 33Mb/s VDSL connection which does 1080p from other video sources fine.

Yup, Works fine for me on VDSL, 39Mb line. (and in High quality)

I'm on Orcon, not Snap, but I have similar issues with Verge videos. Buffering seems to just stop sometimes. High quality in full screen often runs out of buffer every few seconds. When it is buffering it appears to be faster than playback speed, but the buffering is very stop-start. It's like it doesn't reserve enough buffer space for full screen high quality and it takes too long to recommence buffering when it runs out. Medium quality mostly works.

I blame either their player or their content delivery system. I don't think it's a local or ISP issue.

I have the same issue with video on the Verge site. There were a few times I could watch it in high quality without much buffering, but it is rare. However, if I watch the same video on youtube on 1080p or 720p, there is no problem.

I noticed that the video from the Verge site uses lots more data.

I am on Telecom VDSL2.

I have similar issues with videos on The Verge. Good thing is their YouTube channel carries the same videos and streams as flawlessly as you'd expect. So if you're watching a video in an article that won't play nice, head to YouTube.
