anyone else having problems browsing reddit.com from a slingshot connection?

my friend on a telecom connection seems to be having no trouble, ive been doing a few tracerts throughout the day and noticed their IP address changes every time and so do the routers in between.

the error i get when i try to browse is;

Gateway Timeout

The proxy server did not receive a timely response from the upstream server.

Yep!
reddit is timing out for me, and my mrs is complaining that Facebook isn't working well either. Lots of other random American sites too.  Not on 3G so it definitely a slingshot issue.

I'm always having issues with sites, usually seems to be popular sites like google, facebook, youtube, twitter, reddit (Sites that Slingshot cache?) The sites seem to load fine when accessed from their ip addresses, so seems to be an issue with Slingshots DNS (at least for me) I find releasing ip/clearing dns cache/renewing ip tends to clear up most issues.

Though as Xeon has said, yours could be some other issue as I've never had that specific problem before.

You could probably just purchase a new modem in that case and almost double your speed, if not a little more.

Same problem here in Wellington! "Gateway Timeout Error" or "Internal Server Error - Read". It's especially apparent on American sites such as Reddit, Microsoft, etc. and those with content delivery networks (ustream). I always seem to get stuck loading some connection like cdn.ustream.tv etc.

I gave Slingshot a call on Friday night and they assured me it wasn't their problem. Really frustrating. I'm on EUBA too, apparently.

Move to New Zealand's best fibre broadband service (affiliate link). Free setup code: R587125ERQ6VE. Note that to use Quic Broadband you must be comfortable with configuring your own router.

but if slingshot customers are the only ones having issues how can it not be a slingshot problem?

i can get on fine via cpit's snap connection and via a friends telecom connection.

The issue is with slingshot. They cannot provide me anything but ADSL1 from the cabinet in the apartment complex I'm living in.

i think its something wrong with slingshots DNS server, im using google DNS (8.8.8.8 & 8.8.4.4) and i havent had the problem. i do realise that global mode probibally wont work like this but reddit is more important :P

I'm guessing this might be with the MTU on your routers, you should have it set to 1492 if possible.

This is not Slingshot, it's Chorus and the fact there's an old ASLAM in your apartment building which likely won't get upgraded. You should talk to the building owner about this, not Slingshot.

but why then has changing ISP's fixed the problem for people, and why is it only SOME websites?

and why arent all the other ISP forums full of complaints about this?
