Different owners back when Pacfibre was looking for investors. So different view points etc.

No they didn't. they were government owned (indirectly, via kordia) at that point, but are no longer.

Now that the SX cable has ~2.6Tbps lit capacity, I presume it's primarily financial/business diversity reasoning to use alternate providers, rather than a capacity limitation?

I think it'd be great to see more, higher-speed, cost-competitive international links out of NZ, I just wonder if we're still being constrained by historical limitations when we don't need to be already.. hmm, perhaps that's a story for another thread. Sorry :)

With Both Telecom and Vodafone committing to their proposed trans-tasman cable, ( along with Telstra in OZ) I cannot see there being enough additional traffic from the remaining ISPs for an additional trans-pac cable,

if you have a look at the Cable design, the fact that you can get AU -> NZ Capacity is just a bonus, as the hub is in the Norfolk Island.

its really designed so they can sell capacity on the cable from both NZ and AU to USA.

any idea how latency will compare to southern cross? pacific fibre was meant to be reducing latency.

also are there plans to get onto that second perth->singapore cable?
