Is Orcon likely to release a 50/{10,20} fibre plan anytime soon?  30/10 is slow and 100/50 is quite expensive...

I know such plans are thin on the ground but in Wanganui where I'm very likely to be getting a fibre connection in a few months, the only two RSPs to offer residential service are Orcon and Inspire Net, who do offer 50/10.

Hi there,
We are discussing a number of new plans at the moment - I unfortunately can't shed any light on them in public at the moment, but there are new configurations being looked at.
We are probably a month or so away from announcing anything.
Feel free to PM me for a chat.
Cheers!

My other question, which I think has been touched on in previous Geekzone threads, is: what are speeds like on the unlimited plans?  What do you shape, and what do you shape really hard?  Would any of the stuff I usually do, or would like to do, be impacted?  Here's a list of what I most care about:

* VPN to work (within NZ) (F5 VPN)
* VPN to work's servers (USA) (Cisco VPN)
* VPN I want to run netflix and iplayer over (OpenVPN or L2TP to a VPS in the US and another in the UK)
* PC Backups (Bittorrent Sync to an offsite server -- note this is not "normal bittorrent", it's a separate product from Bittorrent Inc)
* rsync over ssh
* rsync over the normal rsync port
* rsync file transfers over a bizzare protocol called UDT, which comes from the scientific research network community.  It looks like a big constant bandwidth stream of UDP, but I don't know if anyone's L7 classifers know about it.  Does much better than TCP, I've managed over 30MBps on a Vodafone cable connection.

I'd want to use over 60GB but I'm cautious about unlimited plans after being on Slingshot's one.  They shaped ssh down to 1Mbps and had the cheek to tell me it was "peer to peer".  I don't bittorrent or anything like that.  If you shape VPNs hard, I'm not interested.

We only manage P2P traffic at peak time on the unlimited plan. Other protocols are treated the same as the capped plans.

Your PC Backup might be treated as P2P however, but its its to a local NZ site it won't be shaped. We only manage International traffic.
