Quite question regarding Fritz boxes and daylight savings time...

Snap had suggested setting to +13 hour timezone and ticking "Use Daylight Savings Time". Seems a bit retarded having to set to the wrong timezone.

Does anybody have settings that work for NZ? I don't trust some tick box, no idea what/how it works. Other devices usually have a rule with exact time and dates daylight savings is in operation.

Had mine set to +12 hours and not ticked so gave the correct time yesterday, and after the change last night wrong time as to be expected. Now ticking daylight savings with +12 hours giving the correct time.

Is this just completely broken? Anybody with this working?

Given we are +12 and now have DST, it sounds like the right setting is working for you.

Um no. I don't accept having to manually log into router and make this change every time daylight savings switches.

e.g. I have a rule setup in my Linksys SPA942 phone and it automatically switches the time perfectly. Just like windows and other devices do. A router is not a dumb device that needs to be set each time like you over clock.

I'm not making any judgement on the rights and wrongs of a modern device that doesn't handle DST by itself - just commenting that you seem to have already sorted out the correct settings, based on the options that it gives you.

Right. I get what you're saying. But I'm pretty sure this works properly if in Germany for example. They're just oversimplified things by offering a simple tick box. I suspect there are people in other countries that have managed to work around and get this working properly as intended. Via telnetting into the box or some other combination of settings.

Cheers. That was a year ago. Hoping the situation has changed since then.

I had read something about tel-netting in and editing files to do with daylight savings. Seems like such an easy fix for them, almost unbelievable that it's not implemented.

My watch has a toggle for DST on/off, so does my phone. Still alot better than having to adjust the time, especially at the other end when it goes back again. Windows does it automatically, but I always check that it's done it right. IF I owned a router that could keep it's time through resets & power outages, and for some reason I actually cared that it had the right time, I'd probably leave it on standard time the whole time, unless I had it set to do something at a specific time.

The best work around might be to use a time server, have the fritz update it's time from there. No worrying about DST, and no worrying about resets/poweroutages/etc.

Definitely should not be something you have to manually do every six months. I assume you have chosen to for Snap to not auto configure your box for some reason?

It also reboots the router instantly and makes all the phones in the house ring for a few rings at 1140pm and wake people up.

Yeah I removed Snaps access after they changed a few settings without letting me know when trying to fix an issue with the VOIP line not being able to make a call to a Callplus number (took about a month to fix but anyway). Think the messed up settings was probably just what happens when saving settings on Fritz Box. Anyway don't want changes being made without me being aware of what's done.

You telling me Snap would log onto every customers box and tick the the daylight savings checkbox? Or automatically provision this change out to everyone at once?

This probably affects caller ID, so really up to Snap to have the correct rule in place. If this is a manual change, then I'd expect Snap to just push out change to all their auto provisioned devices when DST changes; so no they shouldn't have to manually go into each device.

Why not just set the Time Synchronization to update from a New Zealand NTP server.
Snap's DNS server 202.37.101.1 also runs a NTP server on it.
I have not tested this myself yet though so it may not work

Last time I had it on fully automatic (which stops you modifying timezone too) using Snaps timeserver, since the regional options have to be set to Germany/Other (stuff breaks if you change it to NZ or other) it set my timezone to germany and put the call log times out of whack.

So when in normal 'automatic' time update it does SYNC the time correctly, but you have to manually set the timezone and DST if you want the logs to reflect it correctly.

Most places that use daylight savings have different dates times that make sense to that region. Fair enough.
It's really not that complicated though...

For example SPA942 phone has this configuration option:
Daylight Saving Time Rule: start=9/-1/7/2:0:0;end=4/1/7/3:0:0;save=1

Basically the date and time to apply daylight savings time, positive or negative hour difference, in most cases 1 hour, and the end date and time. (Well little more fancy as from memory 7 represents Sun and -1 represents the last one of the month. i.e. last Sun of Sep at 2am.)
It'd be great if the Fritz box let you choose your region from a drop down list and auto populated a field like that.

Just seems like such a simple thing that's super easy to fix. I'm just in a bit of disbelief that it's not addressed.
