Snap extends Ultra-Fast Broadband coverage to 90% of Premises that can access UFB.

Christchurch, 3 October 2013 – Nearly 70,000 Central North Island homes and businesses can now access Ultra-Fast Broadband (UFB) services through Snap, one of New Zealand’s fastest growing telecommunications providers.

With the addition of these new regions Snap now offers the most comprehensive UFB coverage plans of all New Zealand providers - reaching over 90 percent of premises that can access UFB. Over a quarter of New Zealand’s Ultra-Fast Broadband home and business users are already Snap UFB customers.

“We’re delighted to be launching Snap services on Ultrafast Fibre’s Central North Island network,” said Snap chief executive Mark Petrie. “Homes, businesses, and schools in Hamilton, Cambridge, Te Awamutu, Tokoroa, New Plymouth, and Hawera now have an even wider choice of provider to use from today - and we’ll add Tauranga by the end of the month,” Petrie said.

Ultrafast Fibre chief executive Maxine Elliott said: “We’re thrilled to welcome Snap as one of our retail partners. Snap has been successful in other parts of New Zealand, so it’s great to see them launching into six Ultrafast Fibre areas offering competitive ultra-fast broadband packages to our customer base.”

Snap are also extending their Chorus network coverage in the North Island with Palmerston North, Napier, Hastings and Rotorua available now, and Taupo available before the end of the year.

“We’re seeing strong month on month increases with our UFB services nationally. Home users’ demands for speed and data are increasing exponentially and businesses users continue to migrate their business applications to the cloud, driving even higher bandwidth needs,” said Petrie. “As customer expectations rise because of the faster access speeds, it’s vital they choose a provider that can demonstrate proven UFB performance, through an independent tester such as Truenet,” he adds.

Pricing for a residential UFB service starts at just $75 per month. This includes Wi-Fi router, phone service, and 100GB of data per month. Pricing for small business UFB services start at just $129 per month and Snap has an extensive range of data networking products available to medium and large enterprises.

Any word on when we can get it in Lincoln. Snap web site said should be available by 30th September last month.

Now it just says UFB not available. We had cables done well over a month ago.

There's another ISP - Unleash - who from memory can do UFB installs anywhere in NZ (where there is UFB), it's great to see Christchurch based ISP's succeed in the UFB market.

bbunnys - might be worth ringing them on 0800 750 250 to see if they can service your area? You'll be paying a bit more due to the fact they're primarily business or enthusiasts but could be worth it for 100mbit UFB ;)

Hi bbunnys

Not long to wait now, we understand directly from Enable that LIncoln is now only a matter of a few weeks away.

You can see the RSPs that are in each Chorus area by visiting the Chorus website here (http://www.chorus.co.nz/getting-ufb), from memory Unleash doesn't come as an option in many of those areas ;)

Cheers
James

Slightly misleading headline I think, since ufb is only ever going to get to 75% of NZ, and even that level of rollout won't be completed until 2019

We've rolled out to 90% of the areas that will be able to get UFB :)

yes, I realise that.  It was in the main text of the OP.   I am talking about the headline which is misleading at best, and an outright lie at worst.

Wish I had seen this thread earlier

Been with Snap for 18 months on VDSL, been ringing up every two weeks or so for the last two months waiting for the fiber hand off for Tauranga

Two weeks ago I get told its all go, and they set up provisioning etc

Today I take a day off work today because someone needs to be onsite

Transfield start at 8:30, finish up at 4:15

They tell me the fiber light should stop blinking and go solid shortly and I will be good to go.

An hour later I ring UFF - they don't have a clue who I am, they can't find me based on address name or anything

Finally they work it out, and inform me the connection can't go live until they get settings from snap

Thinking this is unacceptable I ring Snap to find out whats up

Turns out, no fiber handoff in Tauranga, so I have a new 24 month contract paying more each month, I've taken a day off work for this - and of course no fiber

Massive massive screw up

Best part is, I have been with four other ISPs in New Zealand, and Snap is still the best, and they have treated me the best, so I will be staying with them.

I am seriously mad right now though

Hi Greaver

Looks like this one slipped through the cracks ... so please accept our apologies.

It goes without saying that we will make sure the billing is correct ie you'll continue to pay your existing VDSL charges until we switch you over to UFB. As a gesture of good faith, when you're connected properly we'll also waive the first months Ultra charge.

The good news is that Tauranga is getting quite close so the install work has not really be in vain, once we complete the network build into the area it will be a really simple job to switch you from VDSL to UFB, so you won't need to take a day off work again. I'll make sure one of the team gives you a call once we can confirm the go live date.

Again, really sorry for the muck up and we really appreciate the positive feedback at the bottom of your post.

Cheers
Ralph

Cheers Ralph

I received a call 4:30pm Wednesday (so the day after the install stuff up) from one of your customer service representatives informing me that this months VDSL will be free, the first month of fiber will be free (and hopefully live in the next two weeks) and that my initially denied request for a 7390 replacement for my 7340 would be taken care of ASAP.

Currently posting using the 7390 right now - was sent out the next day as promised.

Your representative was transparent, apologetic and sounded genuine about addressing my concerns on the phone.

I hope your support infrastructure continues to grow and that you can keep the service at a high level, because even with minor issues this service is ten times better than a call to New Delhi or Manila.
