I am having a recurrence of an issue which was initially happening in August (see this thread).

Basically YouTube videos start buffering and often play for a second or so, but then the buffer disappears and the video stops.  I often get a 'An error occurred, please try again later' message after this as well.  I used to be able to refresh the page a few times and it would work, but this workaround no longer functions.

Interestingly, this is less of an issue in IE, but it doesn't always work.  I have the same issues on different machines at home, but not on my work machine.

Is anyone else having similar issues lately?

My Xtra adsl network took a performance dive at just after 5.30pm today - very slow throughput. Connect stats still look normal.

No, I did last month, but took it off this month.  I think it was actually better on the 'all you can eat' plan.

The "All you can eat" plan is just a billing change, it does not change the way YouTube is routed. This may be caused by another issue such as the MTU set on your router (make sure it's 1492 for VDSL or 1500 for ADSL), along with other factors on your network. The fact that my Snap connection is not having any issues with this only says to me there's possibly something a bit strange with your router or just connection in general.

Also, make sure you're using Snaps DNS servers, try a browser like Google Chrome to check if this is still occurring, swap out your modem and/or factory reset your modem to double check it's not simply that causing it.

Hmm, my MTU is set to 1492 and my DNS servers are set to Snap's.

As I mentioned, this happens less in IE, but still happens.

In that case you could try using Google's DNS (maybe a temporary fix?). Though really things should be smooth on SNAP's DNS.

Hmm, I just tried playing some of the videos I was having issues with before and they're playing perfectly now!  I haven't changed a thing!

Google have been messing with YouTube a lot lately, including the way it buffers. It's often in a state of brokenness, I suspect they're developing in production
