Hi folks, me again.

If we were to decide to move to Snap UFB, but want to port our phone number to another (VoIP) provider, is this possible? If so, what would be the suggested/required steps in order to do this with as little phone and internet downtime as possible? Our current phone and internet provider is Telecom.

EDIT: I live in an area with Ultrafast Fibre as the LFC. No Chorus based answer please.

Should be fairly simple:

Get your voice provider to port your number across to them. Make this your first step, because if Telecom close your account before the porting is done its much harder to port the number.

Once that process is underway sign up with Snap and get them to assign a phone number from their range to your voice service (assuming you need voip with snap).

My understanding is that once the number is ported away or snap send notification to Telecom then your account with Telecom is closed. But I would ring Telecom to 100% confirm this.

The big issue you are going to find is the RFS uncertainty with UFB.

As long as the copper can stay in tact when UFB is installed, then you can just wait and port after.
Or get a temp number with VoIP provider, call divert immediate to temp VoIP number, then if copper does need to be pulled, you will still have continuous phone service. Then as above, port once UFB is live.

Might be worth chatting to snap about options too. When I moved to them they were happy for me to port my number to them then from them to 2talk. (Though that was before they offered VOIP and was more done as a favour to me as I got some dodgy advice from a CSR of the ISP I was leaving... still I can't see why they would have an issue as you'll still be paying the same UFB fees right?)
