Is anyone else having dns problems on Orcon?
Checked the orcon status page, but no mention of any problems.

Using nslookup with the Orcon servers from here:
http://www.orcon.net.nz/support/gfaq_page/what_are_your_dns_server_addresses

$ nslookup
> eshop.macsales.com
;; connection timed out; no servers could be reached
> server 121.98.0.1
Default server: 121.98.0.1
Address: 121.98.0.1#53
> eshop.macsales.com
;; connection timed out; no servers could be reached
> server 121.98.0.2
Default server: 121.98.0.2
Address: 121.98.0.2#53
> eshop.macsales.com
;; connection timed out; no servers could be reached
>

Now using one of the OpenDNS servers.

$ nslookup
> server 208.67.222.222
Default server: 208.67.222.222
Address: 208.67.222.222#53
> eshop.macsales.com
Server:        208.67.222.222
Address:    208.67.222.222#53

Non-authoritative answer:
eshop.macsales.com    canonical name = cs4.can.AFEE.transactcdn.com.
cs4.can.AFEE.transactcdn.com    canonical name = cs4.can.transactcdn.com.
Name:    cs4.can.transactcdn.com
Address: 198.7.31.4

Our DNS looks all good, normal traffic levels, from what I can see no problems.

Thanks, will try the self help thing.

Did the name lookup for the example I gave above work for you or not?
I'm interested to know if I'm the only one.

One thing about the form - it appears to be telling people with name lookup problems to use dns 8.8.8.8 which is google dns - is that official orcon policy?
I suspect that most people will read the guide and make the change and never change back again.

Its official Orcon policy to try an alternate DNS if you are having problems, that is sensible troubleshooting. It isn't Orcon policy to recommend you run permanently on non-Orcon DNS, that can cause problems of itself.

isup.me reports your site is up but it doesn't load for me. I'll pass your support ticket onto the hosting team to troubleshoot Friday am.

There has been an issue for about 10 days or so, I have to put google DNS into a customers server so they could get to a website they needed.

I know enough to be dangerous

This has been traced to be a peering issue that needs to be addressed outside the Orcon network. We are working with the network owners to get this resolved.

....and this should now be resolved, the team fixed it earlier but this is the first chance I've had to post.

Thanks for your patience everyone, always harder to find stuff that breaks as a result of another network's actions :-(
