My mother will be relying on mobile while waiting on fiber install at new house. She will need decent calling time. Looking at the prepay options without going to pay monthly plans, just considering phone time, the following -
$19 combo = 90 mins landline + mobile
+ $30 unlimited NZ landlines
set-up seems pretty decent.

Question: if these two packages are bought, when a landline call is made, can anyone confirm it doesn't do something stupid like eat through the 90 minutes first? As the idea would be to reserve this for mobile calling. TIA

If you just need it for a short while, Telecom are offering NZ landline calls for free for 30 days with a $20 topup. (At least they were - can't find it on their website just right now)

Just as a side note, Telecom are offering free landline calling for 1 month when you top up $20 until the 31st of Jan if you are interested so for $19 you get the normal 100min unlimited txt and 500mb + until the 31st of Jan 2014 you get free calling to landlines and telecom mobiles for 1 month when you top up $20 which you have to to get the $19 combo anyway.

Thanks Shoes. Just remind me what the story is with SIM compatibility, phone is a Sony Xperia bought in NZ for use on 2degrees/Vodafone, will the Telecom SIM work? Also how much does the SIM cost and are there any other catches. This will be only for 1 or 2 months.

Hi, if you have $19 Carryover Combo and add the Unlimited Landline pack calls to landlines will come off the LL pack leaving the minutes on the Carryover Combo for calls to mobiles and any unused mins will be carried over and last up to a year. :)

Cheers

SIMs are $5. I would say that you are probably out of luck with your phone but you can check its compatibility here http://www.telecom.co.nz/mobile/ournetwork/phonecompatibility/

What type of Sony Xperia? Some models will work on Telecom such as the SP.

Xperia Mini Pro.
I think switching to Telecom just for a few months is a bridge too far anyway, although it is an interesting deal.

They do say telecom landlines in the promo details. Not Landlines as 2 degrees do.

What happens if you run out of minutes, can you buy more as you can on Telecom prepay??

Yes you can by extra 60 minutes for $8 or 200 for $19, and they carryover for up to a year as long as you keep some sort of value pack active.
