Okay this might be a little long but bear with me.

A few details first:
Phone is a Huawei Y200 (U8655-1) Android 2.3.6, Rooted, with Recovery Manager installed.
Whangarei - Maungatapere Area

Yesterday I purchased a new 2Degrees Sim, and for the latter it worked great! However as soon as I got home things started to go a bit wierd.
It was working great for the first while of using it (Save for all of my activation txts and Carryover plan txts taking about 20 minutes to get back to me)

When I got home several hours later I had got my text that my number had been ported from Vodafone successfully, put my phone down for a few minutes and upon picking it up again noticed that the phone kept saying "Emergency Calls Only" and would no longer connect to the 2Degrees network.
I thought odd, and tried to do a manual network search. This brings up Vodafone 3G only, which when trying to connect to it tells me "Your SIM does not allow registration on this network" (Which I would expect anyway)

Powering down the phone and removing the battery for a minute and then putting it all back together and....Hey it connects back to 2Degrees, great.

1 Minute later and I am back to the "Emergency Calls Only" thing, with again, only the Voda 3G network being detected.

Pull battery and Sim out, re-seat, and connected again!....for a minute or two.

When it is connected I get 2-3 out of 4 bars on the 2G network and 1-2 bars of 3G reception in my house.

I am about to try a Factory Reset but I really don't want to if I don't have to.

Why is this happening?

Any insight is greatly appreciated

sounds weird to me alright.
Was it ported properly??

I believe it was. I could make calls/send texts with it and received txts on it, and my friends saw no difference in number. I can sign into My 2Degrees using my ported number too.

Have you tried SIM card in another handset in the same location to rule out a handset fault?

Where 2degrees has a site of their own you aren't allowed to roam on to Vodafone. This means that if your town has a 2degrees site but for any reason your handset fails to "connect" to the network (low signal quality, reduced coverage, etc) and plugs into Vodafone (or Telecom) then this other provider won't allow your handset to use the service for anything but emergency calls as it is not allowed service because it's inside the 2degrees area.

Are you sure other people using 2degrees can actually use their services at the same location?

Sounds like you're outside 2degrees coverage area and your phone is camping onto Vodafone (can also camp onto Telecom) in emergency mode.

If you're in a 2degrees geographic coverage zone you aren't able to roam onto Vodafone.

Did you check for 2d coverage at home before you ported your number?

Are you sure of this? I am not up to date with the latest locked out LACs but hey you could be correct

The OP should be trying SIM card in another handset first

Roaming is allowed in the Whangarei area. It's only the Vodafone LACs that are completely covered by 2degrees that are excluded.

Thanks for the replies.

According to the coverage map, 2Degrees has a tower not far from my home, alongside a Voda and Telecom tower at the same location. I believe you may be onto something as when it was working fine, I was closer to town in the Maunu area.

I do not have access to another phone to try the SIM in, but as I said it was purchased yesterday.

I also forgot to mention the phone would not work on the Vodafone network at all, and would only ever display "Emergency Calls Only".

Even when I am connected to the 2Degrees network just fine and manually select 2Degrees 2G it will still randomly drop the connection after a few minutes

Really confused.

Yep - Took it into store...It was blacklisted

Apparently somebody mis-typed a number while blocking an IMEI.
Original box + receipt + same card used to buy (With my name on it ofc) and it was the same store I bought it from they unblocked it for me there and then.
