Just mentioning so it might be of help.    The Huawei 21.6 modem sold in the HiLink packet seems to work perfectly with Linux Ubuntu 12.04 and 13.04.    Nothing to do, a pop-up appears saying wired connection 2 is connected.    Then I d.l. about 232 mb of updates at a good speed of 3-5 MB/sec early evening.   

The only issue I had was having to use Windows to get a text saying what my 2 degrees temporary password was, but this could have been sent to my mobile instead.
