HI.  Can anyone tell me if the Orcon Genius modem will pass through SIP separately to its own internal voip-pots line.

I have a SIP service with World Exchange and one with 2talk which currently work fine through or SMC router.  Will the genius also pass SIP without trouble?

Hi There,

It should work, but you will need to use an alternate SIP listen port on your ATA.  I'd suggest 6000.  Otherwise Genius' ALG gets in the way and munges things.

Cheers

Dan

Hi Dan and thanks for the reply.  I use Asterisk locally and then SIP trunks to connect to the 2talk and world exchange lines.  So the port change your suggesting would be a port redirect at the router to my Asterisk?

Asterisk might be a bit of overkill for 2 lines an 3 extensions but it hums along nicely.

No I'd suggest changing the port on Asterisk.  That should be pretty straight forward.  Cheers.

Great thanks. BTY, can you use the $99 unlimited plan with any compatible router or is it locked to the Genius hardware (disregarding the internal Orcon VOIP service)?

Generally you can use your own gear, whether you "must" have a Genius will depend a bit on which access service is being used.  Suggest going through the signup on our website.

I was using orcon genius modem + wxc(on pap2t). Then was using Vigor 120(genius unlimited) + airport + pap2t(one line wxc, second line genius voice).
All setup was working just fine.

I have a PAP2T (talking to Slingshot iTalk) plugged into the Genius router.  No issues.
