Hi,
Has anyone got IPv6 working with a non-Fritz box?
I very recently connected up to UFB with a Netcomm NF4V (which works great, and will be putting up a post on UFB install soon, with UFF LFC).
But I can't seem to get IPv6 working.

In the NF4V WAN Service settings, there are only 3 settings for IPv6, which are all ticked:
- Enable IPv6 for this service
- Request IPv6 Address
- Request Prefix Delegation

Under "LAN > IPv6 Autoconfig", I have enabled "Unique Local Addresses And Prefix Advertisement", and under IPv6 LAN Applications I have enabled "Enable DHCPv6 Server and RADVD"

On the Device info page I have the following:
LAN IPv4 Address: 10.0.0.1
Default Gateway: 111.69.67.209
LAN Ipv6 Address: fbdb4::2a19:f92a::1/64
Default IPv6 Gateway: ppp1.1

And on the Device Info > WAN page, I have:
IPv4 Status = Connected
IPv4 Address = 203.86.202.xxx (hidden for this post)
IPv6 Status = Connected
IPv6 Address = (blank) ???

Going to http://test-ipv6.com shows ipv6 not supported.
When I run "ipconfig" on a Windows PC on the LAN, I do get: IPv6 Address, Temporary IPv6 Address, Link-local IPv6 Address, and an IPv6 Default gateway.

pretty sure snap is ipv6 by default. you simply need your device to support it.

are you sure your browser has ipv6 enabled, had to turn mine on to get ipv6 recognised. just a thought.

Snap does enable IPv6 by default.
I have IPv6 working without a Fritzbox. I'm using TomatoUSB. Have also had it working on the stock Asus firmware on an N16 and an N66u.

Could you post the output of ipconfig? If the router is giving out internal IPv6 addresses then they are of no use for v6 internet connectivity.

Here is ipconfig with IPv6 LAN Auto Configuration Disabled (DHCPv6 Server and RADVD, and Unique Local Addresses And Prefix Advertisement)

And here is ipconfig with those same IPv6 LAN options enabled:

Are you saying that having (or not having) an internal LAN IPv6 address makes no difference to IPv6 internet (WAN) connectivity?

Here is the modem (NFV4) WAN Info page, showing IPv6 connected, but no IPv6 address given: (ignore first row, thats for a disabled adsl2 connection)

From those screenshots it looks like your computer is receiving a globally routable IPv6 address.
Can you ping ipv6.google.com from said computer?

Edit: What happens if you disable "Enable Unique Local Addresses And Prefix Advertisement"?
You'll also need to reset your network adapter on your computer when you change this. I've found Windows will keep trying to use old v6 addresses, even when a newer one is available.

Perhaps its a gateway or routing issues for ipv6 via the modem?

Does the output of ipconfig change?
Also resetting the network adapter is important. Either disable and then enable it, or unplug and then reconnect the cable after applying changes on the router.

Try different combinations of the options on that page and see if you can get it working. My computers do have link local v6 addresses, but no link local temporary addresses.
At a guess I would say that your computers are trying to use the local v6 address for v6 connectivity.

Reversing those options (e.g. turning off DHCPv6 Server), and restarting networking on my PC, means I no longer have that 2406..... IPv6 in ipconfig.

I even SSH'd into the modem itself, tried pinging ipv6.google.com, but no luck.

Then I came across a setting on the modem admin pages, under Advanced Setup > Routing > Default Gateway
Which shows the text:
TODO: IPV6 *********** Select a preferred wan interface as the system default IPv6 gateway.

As you can see on the emulator here: http://emulators.netcomm.com.au/NF4V/Resources/rtdefaultcfg.html

I did have the UFB connection selected as the default ipv6 gateway.
But perhaps the "TODO...." text suggests Netcomm never got this working?

I might send a support enquiry to Netcomm.

Oh. If the router can't ping v6 addresses then the clients are highly unlikely to be able to.
Check to see if there is a firmware update available for the router, perhaps?

No updated firmware available, so sent enquiry to Netcomm.

And yes it does look my PC was assigned a valid (dynamic) IPv6 address from Snap, as 2406:e000:987c:0:31ad:1df4:4713:617a
Snap's own IPv6 DNS servers in same range 2406:e000:... http://www.snap.net.nz/support/content/3/51/en/what-is-ipv6.html
A whois on APNIC also shows my IPv6 address belongs to Snap :)

Just wondering if anyone has had any joy with the NF4V and IPv6 on snap either on VDSL or on fiber.

I am at the same stage as this thread. Things are assigned addresses in the range, but traceroute6 just goes to the first hop which is the netcomm and then nothing after that.

Would really like to get it working again but with the netcomm, and not by re-deploying the fritzbox.

I've had it working through mine. IIRC all I did was tick the enable v6 box, and set it to hand out v6 addresses with prefix delegation.

Yeah it should would tbh, you've got to remember, IPV6 hands out the addresses throughout your network if you've set it up right. basically any and all the computers become a node on the internet. Eg They're now all internet facing. That's IF you set it up this way. it's been over 6 months since I've played with those netcomms and I was getting good with them. I'd need to get my hands on another one though in order for me to even begin to tell you how to do it again though.

I got an NF4V through Orcon, and the thing was a pile of s*it. The IPv6 settings UI were heavily incomplete and generally required Orcon to push through changes to the settings, leaving me with no way to inspect or modify. There was even a developer TODO left in the fricken UI!

Get a finished router and it will probably work.
