Currently camping in twizel in the heart of the mackenzie country im on 2degrees which roams to vodafone I believe and for the vast majority of time mobile services are overloaded, texts seem to be the most reliable although late at times, upon testing even a phone call from a telecom mobile to my phone as a test with plenty of signal returned a voicemail multiple times but i could turn around and call back, and i would then recieve the missed call message, and data is completely unuseable throughout the day, just get unable to connect messages. On the otherhand the wifes telecom mobile is completly fine little slower than normal but completly acceptable. I guess all these double data offers are taking their toll. Anyone else having issues around the country? I understand that there are a huge increase in traffic but this is unusable in terms of data.

The question more is: Is there a magic solution for overloading in Holiday spots?

A public holiday surcharge on networks to justify gear sitting somewhere that won't get used for 51 weeks of the year?

I often find 2G a good backup in hotspots when things grind to a halt. Particularly these days when fewer are using 3G for their mobiles. However, data is not very useful at those speeds, but calling and sms work fine.

And a more streamlined resource consent process so that we can all install 5 or 6 extra sites per town easily over the top of the vocal objections of the locals.

iPad Pro 11" + iPhone 15 Pro Max + 2degrees 4tw!

These comments are my own and do not represent the opinions of 2degrees.

Yip that'd help - having heard the process required by some local bodies to park up a COW I'm surprised the networks even bother!

You're on holiday in a beautiful place. Put down your phone for 5 minutes, breathe in the fresh air, enjoy the sun and try again later.

johnr: Add extra capacity like 4G

The Vodafone 4G at Whitianga,  Hahei, and other Coromandel spots has solved the problems we usually have with mobile data. I got over 50Mbps download speeds on Vodafone, and 2degrees and Telecom are both painfully slow.

yes I find if I locked it to 2g it works better you actually receive calls texts and data even though it is really slow.
