So I have a landline number with 2talk ...e.g. (09) 876 5432
I also have a 2degrees prepaid number ...022 345 6789

I call 2degrees Voicemail on 022 202 2002 from my 2talk number in order to check/setup my prepaid mobile number's voicemail as it doesn't have any credit on it.

I get through to the Voicemail box where it asks me to setup a PIN and voicemail greeting etc which I do.

Only after this point do I realise that I never actually gave 2degrees Voicemail the mobile number that I wanted to check the voicemail of so HTF would it know which voicemail box I'm trying to setup (not by my CID of course as I'm calling from a different network!).

So anyway back in the voicemail main menu I press 3 > 4 > 8 to reset the greeting back to default and listen to what it says:

"Hello you've reached the mailbox of 098765432" <- My 2talk number.

So it's obviously trying to setup a voicemail box based on CID for a number it doesn't own, weird.

Now i'm still left with the problem of how do I check my prepaid voicemail from another number, tried calling it and pressing # & * etc but doesn't work like VF.

(Sorry for all the 2D bashing today however I find this forum the most useful way of reporting issues like this and actually getting follow up as trying to explain it to customer service would cause their head to explode).

Just tried it now from my landline (Xnet) and it asks me to enter my 2degrees number as normal.

Call 022 202 2001. That should always give you indirect access.

Someone's done something as both numbers (022 202 2001 and 022 202 2002) now go to a different prompt:

"To check your messages, press 1. To send a message, press 2"

Pressing 1 then asks for the mobile number I want to check -  which doesn't help me as it then say "voicemail isn't setup on this number" when I enter my prepaid number (which is probably usual behaviour).

Pressing 2 allows me to send a voicemail message directly to any 2degrees number -  not sure if this is usual behaviour.

Lol, the funny thing is I can still press 1 and enter my 2talk number to get access to that voicemail box I was getting automatically redirected to before

Anyway I thought Telcos were done with relying on CID for authentication and opening customers (and themselves) up to CID spoofing hacks?

Turns out this has been happening for a while (at least since 2009): http://www.iphonewzealand.co.nz/forum/2degrees/voicemail-number-not-working-correctly/
