Okay, so I have searched the GZ interwebs and found a few posts asking 'does VF limit 2D roaming traffic'.
Answer is No.
I would just like to share my experiences over the last few weeks, as I was this close to paying 7 connections worth of ETCs and ditching 2D in favour of another telco. However my recent trip this weekend has somewhat made me happy for 2D once again.
Very frequently I travel from Wellington to Taupo to our family bach for some nice relaxing r&r. This Xmas (27/12) we traveled along state highway 1 (took 4 hours to get from Wgtn to Levin) and with a one year old in the car was absolutely great.
I have always streamed my Google Play music through bluetooth in my car, however I noticed this time when roaming on VF music streaming was impossible on both my wifes GN2 and my GN2. I then read the 2D web site and found that the wording may imply that when roaming they don't utilize VFs 3G 900mhz.
See http://www.2degreesmobile.co.nz/why-2degrees/coverage.
So once I read the paragraph at the bottom of the above page, I sighed and decided to move as I would rather pay more to get full 3G coverage.
This weekend, I decided to have another go at both streaming and speedtests during my drive to Taupo. I was surprised to find that streaming worked perfectly, and that speedtests while roaming in the middle of nowhere, was around 4Mbps down.
Big question: Did VF limit roaming traffic for 2D customers during the peak Xmas period? I know great stress is placed on telcos at popular holiday spots, so maybe an executive decision was made to prioritize VF first which affected 2D greatly? I think this is understandable, but is a strike against 2D for not having a complete network.
Anyone have similar experiences?
