Hello.

We are looking to sign up to SNAP for our home broadband, and are wanting their SNAP Plus VDSL Plan (which includes VOIP service).
Upon phoning to sign up, the customer representative stated only Fritzbox modems (which they supply) are the only devices which can handle VOIP on their network – if we used any alternative modem, VOIP wouldn't work.

After reading information on Geekzone, on various modems which i thought would be good VDSL/VOIP modems, i have shortlisted the ZyXEL VMG8324-B10A as the right price point / functionality.

Can anyone say for sure if what SNAP have said is correct, or, if the Zyxel Modem would actually work with their SNAP PLus?

Any help is gratefully accepted!

There have been posts in the past with people having trouble getting snap VOIP setup on other devices. I seem to recall others getting it working, but not sure how easy it is or how forthcoming snap is with all the required settings, etc?

If you're wanting to have more control over your modem choice and to set it up yourself etc, have you considered just going with the snap naked offering and then something from another voip provider? I'm with snap for VDSL and 2talk for VOIP and extremely happy with this combination. Combined price I think works out pretty similar to the bundled snap offering? (I should say I'm also using a Fritzbox and very happy with that too... great device, just a pity it doesn't bridge)

Any device will work but you're entirely on your own when it comes to configuration and support. Snap! can offer a fully managed service with a Fritz!box which is very important when you're dealing with a true PSTN replacement offering.

I'll be completely honest here and say if you really have to ask this question you should be sticking with the Fritz!box.

Thanks sbiddle ,and sidefx, much appreciated. Im conformable enough configuring VOIP. I guess i dontwant to make the capital expenditure to find out the routers blocked because of some strange issue.

I think sidefx you have answered what i was already thinking, or confirmed that, and now will go with Naked and 2Talk.

The high modem price for the Fritz! is just too much, and the VDSL offerings are now getting competitive to lock in for two years at this stage to take up a discounted modem. So Naked SNAP / 2Talk combo it is.

imo, locking into that 2 years with snap is a no brainer.

myself personally, they ticked all the boxes, which at the time of picking i was gonna have to go to a less "residentialized" isp (HD or the likes..) as none one else was really fulfilled my list. (yes, i am just really picky!)

i couldnt be happier, what faults i have had, snap have been great!
