Hi All,

I'm looking for the public IP range that Orcon uses (as I'm on a dynamic IP) - can anyone help?

there are several ranges that Orcon owns, perhaps what are you trying to find out in relation to them would be more pointed question. :)

Sure thing (sorry, should have been more specific in my original post).

We're trying to filter hits on a website, and discount any that I have made. As I'm on an Orcon dynamically assigned IP, I need to know the possible range of IPs in order to create this filter.

(And yes, I realise that this would also be a catch-all filter affecting any requests from any other Orcon user. In this case we're OK with that).

Why don't you just write a script to capture you current (and therefore historical) IP's and use that to filter?

This ought to cover it (note: not provided by us) : Major IP Address Blocks for New Zealand

I made an .htaccess which includes all the NZ IP ranges from that site, if anyone wants it I'll happily share it.

Edit: just noticed that the "owner" field is empty in that table. In which case 121.98.0.0/15 and 60.234.0.0/16 ought to cover it. Also I'm surprised if any decent CMS cannot discount logged in admins from the hit count?

I guess there's no harm in asking - do you think Orcon will be reconsidering their no-static-IP policy (on unlimited plans) anytime soon?

I've heard various noises about this but nothing official. I don't imagine anything will be announced until, you know, something is announced :) But I'll put the question to Product.

Update: So I asked product: "There's pressure internally to review it, as we're aware it's frustrating for some. But there's no hard decision or dates yet." I guess that's as close to an official line as we can get :)

Thanks for the quick reply UbergeekNZ. It's definitely frustrating - hopefully things will change sooner rather than later :-)

[and FWIW, I'm not looking to run any local servers. The dynamic IP issue for me is not being able to be whitelisted through various firewalls - dyndns services don't cut it]

One thing I could suggest is a cheap VPS, using certificate based SSH, and then use it as a jump host for your stuff. Just secure that down to Orcon or NZ range and you should be pretty sweet.

Would be nice, getting sick of having to verify my IP all the time in different MMOs.
